OHM Global Mobility Expands Chennai’s Electric Mobility Footprint with 130 New Electric Buses

Chennai, 31st August 2026: OHM Global Mobility (OHM), the strategic arm of Ashok Leyland and part of the Hinduja Group, providing e-mobility solutions for e-buses and e-trucks, today announced the expansion of its electric bus operations in Chennai. The company has launched 130 new air-conditioned electric buses under Phase 2 of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s (MTC) electric bus programme.

The new buses were flagged off by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at the Secretariat, in the presence of Tamil Nadu Transport Minister Vijay Tamilan Parthiban; Transport Secretary Nirmal Raj, I.A.S.; MTC Managing Director D. Mohan, I.A.S.; and officials from OHM Global Mobility.

The launch builds on OHM’s Phase 1 experience in Chennai, where its electric buses have clocked more than 3 crore green kilometres, while its Phase 1 depots have achieved 99%+ schedule adherence, demonstrating the reliability and operational performance of electric public transport at scale.

Under MTC’s Phase 2 programme, OHM will supply and operate 500 e-buses manufactured by Switch, the electric vehicle subsidiary of Ashok Leyland. The 130 buses launched today are the first batch of OHM’s Phase 2 deployment and will further expand Chennai’s electric public transport network, offering commuters a quieter and more comfortable travel experience.

Brijesh Gubbi Suresh, CEO, OHM Global Mobility, said, “The launch of the first 130 buses under Phase 2 marks an important milestone in Chennai’s transition towards sustainable public transportation. Our experience in Phase 1, including crossing 3 crore green kilometres and achieving 99%+ schedule adherence across our depots, demonstrates that sustainability and operational excellence can go hand in hand. We are proud to build on this foundation with MTC and contribute to a cleaner, quieter and more comfortable public transport experience for the people of Chennai.”

As the Phase 2 fleet expands, OHM will continue to leverage its capabilities across electric mobility, fleet operations, maintenance and Mobility-as-a-Service solutions to support reliable and scalable electric public transport in Chennai.

The expansion reinforces OHM Global Mobility’s commitment to accelerating the adoption of electric public transportation and enabling cities to transition towards cleaner and more efficient mobility.
