New Delhi, 20 May 2026: OPPO India today shared the progress of LUMO Lab, an India-exclusive imaging initiative, marking deeper progress in building smartphone camera technology designed specifically for Indian users.
LUMO Lab has become the foundation of OPPO’s ‘tuned-for-India’ innovation journey, driving the imaging breakthroughs that power the upcoming flagship devices, the Find X9 Ultra and Find X9s, set to launch in India on 21 May 2026.
Since its launch in November 2025, OPPO’s global imaging experts and India’s leading creative storytellers, including Joseph Radhik and Ashik Aseem have conducted multiple collaborative sessions, photowalks, and field tests across cities such as Jaipur, Delhi, and Mumbai, involving over 160 photographers, creators and users through real-world validation exercises.

These sessions explored real-world imaging scenarios spanning authentic skin tones under varied light conditions, festival colour accuracy, architectural portraits, and the intricate textures of traditional attire and craftsmanship. Collectively, these field studies have given significant insights into user challenges like maintaining harmony between people and backgrounds in high-contrast scenes.
The learnings gathered through this ongoing collaboration have directly shaped the refined imaging tuning now seen in the OPPO Find X9 Series, ensuring that every image reflects India’s warmth, vibrancy, and authenticity.
Simon Liu, Director of Imaging Technology at OPPO, said: “Imaging in India is far more complex than most global markets because of extreme light, diverse skin tones, saturated cultural colours, and expressive architecture. Through LUMO Lab, we combine engineering precision with local artistic insight, we don’t just take photos, we make images feel truly Indian.”
LUMO Lab: Engineering meets Emotions
Authentic Indian Skin Tones: The first phase concentrated on achieving the most natural portrayal of Indian skin tones across diverse lighting conditions. OPPO’s imaging engineers worked closely with Indian photographers to fine-tune colour balance and texture rendering, ensuring portraits appear realistic, warm, and true to life.
Festival Colour Tuning: During India’s most vibrant celebrations such as Holi, LUMO Lab focused on capturing lively hues and dynamic motion without over-saturation or distortion. This phase refined OPPO’s colour science to deliver images that stay vivid yet authentic, preserving both atmosphere and emotion.
People & Architecture Harmony: The latest phase emphasised achieving visual balance in scenes that combine people and India’s intricate architecture. Through collaborative research and field testing, OPPO worked on exposure, white balance, and colour tone to capture both human subjects and landmarks with equal depth, naturalness, and clarity.
OPPO’s imaging ecosystem represents the brand’s most advanced integration of technology and emotion, a true evolution of human-centred imaging innovation. Anchored by the LUMO Image Engine and co-engineered with Hasselblad, the system brings together advanced hardware, computational imaging, and colour science to capture life with remarkable realism and depth.
At the heart of this ecosystem, the OPPO Find X9 Series stands as OPPO’s ultimate expression for pro-grade imaging and cinematic storytellers. Every generation, including the upcoming Find X9 Ultra and Find X9s, has been crafted around how users see, shoot, and share.
For professional creators, the Find X9 Ultra functions as a complete camera system, offering multi-focal flexibility, advanced telephoto architecture, and 16-bit HDR precision for uncompromising control. For lifestyle storytellers, the Find X9s delivers effortless imaging that’s instantly ready to share, powered by the same LUMO Image Engine and Hasselblad colour science. Together, they embody OPPO’s vision of empowering every user to transform everyday moments into authentic visual stories, a philosophy rooted in technology that doesn’t just see people but understands them.
