Otis India launches ‘Made to Move Communities’ global challenge, students to tackle mobility challenges through STEM and AI

Mumbai, 12 November 2025: Otis India, a subsidiary of Otis Worldwide Corporation (NYSE: OTIS) – the global leader in the manufacture, installation and servicing of elevators and escalators, has announced the 6th edition of its annual global Made to Move Communities challenge. This year’s theme focuses on empowering students to design Artificial Intelligence-based mobility solutions that can help communities and first responders prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters.

Through this initiative, Otis reaffirms its commitment to advancing STEM learning and nurturing the next generation of changemakers, to channel their empathy, creativity, and love for technology to build more resilient cities for the future. In the coming months, over 200 participating students from 18 countries and territories will collaborate with 150 Otis mentors from across the globe to develop AI-led innovations that support communities during, and after natural disasters.

While commenting on the challenge, Mr. Sebi Joseph, President, Otis India, said, “During natural calamities, reliable vertical mobility becomes critical to ensuring people’s safety and access to essential support. This year’s Made to Move Communities challenge encourages students to blend innovation with compassion, and to see mobility through a humanitarian lens. I’m confident that this initiative will bring forth ideas that solve mobility challenges for such unforeseen situations, while also fostering empathy, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving in the leaders of tomorrow.

The Made to Move Communities program is Otis’ flagship global student challenge that inspires young minds to develop creative, STEM-based solutions to real-world mobility issues. Students explore how mobility challenges affect their communities and propose creative solutions to create better connected cities. Teams from each region compete before Otis judges, and the regional winners advance to a global finale. At the end of the program, each school selected receives a STEM grant ranging from USD 7,500 to 35,000 to further support their innovation and education.

Since its launch in 2020, Made to Move Communities has engaged over 1,000 students and 950 Otis mentors globally, contributing over $1.25 million in grants to participating schools to support STEM education and innovation programs.
