Passionate in Marketing – In Conversation With Mr. Pradeep Chauhan, Founder, Finfinity

1. What problem in India’s financial ecosystem led to the creation of Finfinity, and what gap is the company trying to address?

The fintech ecosystem has predominantly focused on the bottom of the pyramid, particularly through unsecured, algorithm-based lending. This has largely served borderline customer profiles, often at significantly higher interest rates, while prime and near-prime customers continue to access credit through traditional banks and NBFCs, often through brick-and-mortar processes.

Finfinity was created to bridge this gap by making the lending journey seamless across the entire spectrum, from prime to near-prime customers.

At the same time, fintechs have largely remained focused on unsecured lending. Finfinity aims to go beyond this by bringing different retail asset products onto a single digital platform and making access to finance seamless across asset segments.

2. How do you see embedded finance evolving in India over the next 3–5 years, and which sectors present the biggest opportunities?

Embedded finance is likely to become a significant part of retail lending, with point-of-sale lending emerging as an important model.

One of the biggest opportunities is digitising products that have traditionally operated through lead-generation models.

For instance, home loans have historically not been a true point-of-sale product. With digital journeys, a builder could potentially offer a home loan as an embedded product, allowing the customer to complete the journey in minutes rather than days or months.

As more financial products become end-to-end digital journeys rather than just lead-generation journeys, the industry is likely to move increasingly towards embedded models.

3. What is driving the shift from standalone financial products towards embedded, API-driven financial services?

For the last one-and-a-half to two decades, financial institutions have largely operated around individual products, with the same customer approaching different institutions for different financial requirements.

The industry had lead aggregators, but there was no genuine marketplace where customers could access multiple financial products on a single platform.

Digital journeys, deeper technology integrations, and banks becoming increasingly ready to integrate with external ecosystems are now driving the shift. This is enabling customers to access multiple financial products across banks and industries from a single platform.

Over the next few years, the financial ecosystem could evolve much like the travel industry, where a customer can log on to one platform and complete a loan journey digitally with the bank of their choice.

4. How can technology, alternative data, and AI-led underwriting help expand access to formal credit, particularly for underserved and Tier 2/3 customers?

Technology is helping eliminate redundant processes and documentation by enabling API-based integration with the broader financial ecosystem. Even for prime customers, information such as income documentation, bank statements, and credit behaviour can increasingly be assessed digitally and on the go.

For underserved customers, the growing availability of financial information through public digital infrastructure is opening up new possibilities.

Transactional data, including UPI behaviour, can help algorithms understand a customer’s financial behaviour, income patterns, and spending habits even when traditional declared-income or credit-history data may not be available.

This reduces the need to make a completely blind lending decision and can bring more new-to-credit customers into the formal banking ecosystem.

5. What does Finfinity’s latest $2.4 million fundraise enable the company to do differently over the next 12–24 months?

The $2.4 million seed round is being deployed across two key areas.

First, Finfinity will continue to invest in technology, which remains a priority.

Second, the company has already conducted pilots and proofs of concept across multiple segments. The funding will now help Finfinity move from these pilots towards building volumes and reaching larger customer segments.

6. What differentiates Finfinity’s embedded finance model from traditional lending, corporate fintech, or consumer-facing financial platforms?

Traditionally, lending has been a seller-driven market rather than a buyer-driven one.

Customers often selected a product or bank based on recommendations from intermediaries, without access to a transparent platform showing the broader set of available options.

Finfinity aims to create a genuine financial marketplace where customers can make informed choices based on the offerings available to them.

Since financial products and their terms can change frequently, the platform is designed to give customers visibility into a dynamic set of options rather than relying solely on an intermediary’s recommendation.

7. Do you believe the next phase of Indian fintech growth will be driven more by infrastructure and B2B2C platforms than standalone consumer apps? Why?

The digitisation of India’s financial ecosystem requires four pillars to work together: public digital infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, digitally enabled banks, and fintech companies that connect these components.

Government and public infrastructure provide the underlying ecosystem, regulators establish frameworks for areas such as data privacy and security, banks need to digitise internal processes and enable external integrations, and fintechs stitch these components together.

As these four pillars increasingly move together, the industry is likely to see deeper and more meaningful digitisation.

8. As fintech regulation evolves, how is Finfinity balancing innovation, responsible lending, data privacy, compliance and risk management?

Data security, information security, and regulatory compliance have been priorities for Finfinity from day one.

The company has implemented certifications and compliance frameworks beyond what may necessarily be required for its space, including ISO 27001, SOC 1, and SOC 2, as well as DPDP compliance.

The approach is based on zero compromise when it comes to data security and privacy.

Finfinity also views evolving regulatory guidelines around these areas positively and sees them as important to building a responsible digital financial ecosystem.

9. What key milestones, partnerships, markets or product innovations are you targeting as part of Finfinity’s next phase of growth?

Finfinity is pursuing two key approaches.

The first is building a customer-driven app where customers can directly come on-board and access financial products. The second is making retail asset products across segments available as point-of-sale products.

The company is developing deeper partnerships with the builder ecosystem, particularly around home-loan products, and has already conducted pilots that have received a positive response.

Finfinity has also partnered with financial service distributors, creating the possibility for financial advisors to guide customers across lending and investment needs through a single relationship.

10. Looking ahead, what role do you see Finfinity playing in India’s financial ecosystem, and what larger change do you ultimately want the company to drive?

Finfinity aims to move the industry beyond the traditional lead-aggregation model, where a customer’s requirement is captured and passed on to multiple banks or NBFCs, often resulting in several institutions reaching out to the same customer.

The company is investing in deep technology integrations across banks, NBFCs, and financial products so customers can choose which institution they want to deal with and complete the journey digitally, without physical documentation or unnecessary human intervention.

The larger objective is to put the customer in control of the financial journey, allowing them to choose the bank, product, and level of engagement, while ensuring that their information is not shared with multiple partners without clear consent.
