Shekhar Kapur Unveils Pathbreaking AI-Generated Sci-Fi Series: WARLORD

Mumbai, 29th July 2025 — Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur has released a teaser announcing his ambitious global project, WARLORD, a sci-fi series created entirely using GenAI.

As writer, director, and producer, the Padma Bhushan awardee (Golden Globe, BAFTA, Academy Award-recognised) has collaborated with Mumbai-based AI Filmmaking company, Studio Blo to build a cinematic universe that straddles science fiction, fantasy, and an epic love story. At the heart of WARLORD lies a profound question: “Can love exist across dimensions?”

More than just a narrative series, WARLORD is the foundation of an expansive narrative universe. Mr. Kapur has revealed plans for the IP to evolve into a multiverse of interconnected formats. He plans to make the series’ production design and characters available for others to use, creating what he calls “a rainforest of ideas.” Users can adapt elements from “Warlord” for their own projects, with the stipulation that they pay one cent per use and make their creations open source for others to build upon.

A short teaser released by Shekhar Kapur & Studio Blo offers a glimpse into the surreal visual world of WARLORD: a colossal spaceship shaped like a jellyfish hovering above an alien planet, a luminous woman who dissolves into energy, and a mysterious figure watching it all unfold. The imagery is both otherworldly and intimate — hinting at a narrative that is as emotionally resonant as it is visually arresting.

“Finally with AI, we have the ability to compete with the huge Hollywood blockbusters,” says Shekhar Kapur. “But more importantly, we now have the tools to imagine stories that go beyond dimensions of time, space, and even consciousness. Warlord is not just a sci-fi series; it’s a living universe. A place where creators around the world can participate, build, and dream together. With AI, we’re no longer bound by the limitations of traditional filmmaking, we can now tell deeply personal stories on an infinite canvas.”

Kapur is known for his iconic films, including Indian films “Masoom” and “Mr. India,” hard-hitting biopic “Bandit Queen,” the Oscar-winning “Elizabeth” starring Cate Blanchett, “The Four Feathers” starring Heath Ledger, and rom-com “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” He also serves as festival director of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

Shekhar Kapur came to us with a series of impossibilities,” said Dipankar Mukherjee, Co-Founder & CEO of Studio Blo, “Right from the idea of a complete series made entirely with AI, to the visionary concept of distributed IP ownership. He pushed us to reinvent how we were building our tech and how we were approaching storytelling.”
