SLL’s “Something in the Rain” Expands Global Reach with Indian Adaptation “Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar”

SLL’s hit Korean romance drama “Something in the Rain” has been adapted for the Indian market. Its official Indian adaptation, “Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar(Maybe this is Love),” produced by Pocket Aces, is now airing on COLORS and streaming on JioHotstar. The remake is the latest step in SLL’s push to bring its content IP to global markets by working with local producers and platforms.

The Indian adaptation is winning its way into viewers’ hearts by exploring the concept that why age should have more say in our relationships than the way someone makes us feel. The romance drama has been garnering an encouraging response from audiences, reflecting the growing resonance of a story that places human emotions, personal choices and the courage to love at its heart.

The series follows Preeti Arora, a 35-year-old working woman in Delhi who falls for Aarav Ahuja, a game developer ten years younger than her. After a painful breakup with her longtime boyfriend Gaurav Gulati, Preeti finds herself drawn to Aarav, but their relationship goes against everything she’s been told about age, marriage, and the “right” kind of partner. As she deals with pressure from her family and society, Preeti has to decide what will truly make her happy. The remake keeps the emotional heart of the original while telling the story reflecting the cultural and social dynamics of contemporary Indian society. Aditi Dev Sharma stars as Preeti, alongside Daksh Puri as Aarav and Kunal Karan Kapoor as Gaurav. The show airs Monday through Friday at 9:30 PM.

The original “Something in the Rain” premiered on JTBC in 2018 and nearly doubled its ratings over the course of its run. According to TNMS, the drama climbed from 3.8% for its premiere to 7.1% for its finale, as viewers connected with its honest take on love and social expectations.

Sameer Gogate, Business Head, COLORS – JioStar, said, “The adaptation of Something in the Rain into Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar was an opportunity to bring a globally acclaimed love story to Indian audiences while preserving the emotional depth and authenticity that made the original so compelling. Our endeavour was to retain the heart of the story while reimagining it through the cultural nuances, family dynamics and societal expectations that shape how relationships are experienced in India. The encouraging response to the show reaffirms our belief that powerful storytelling transcends geographies and languages when it is rooted in genuine human emotions. It also reaffirms that globally loved stories can find a new home and forge meaningful connections with audiences when adapted with cultural sensitivity and a deep understanding of the market they are entering.”

Vinay Pillai, Chief Executive Officer at Pocket Aces, shared, “Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar’ reflects how stories about love, relationships and personal choices transcend cultural boundaries. Having pioneered young adult romance storytelling in India, Pocket Aces’ Dice Media, has consistently explored the nuances of modern relationships through relatable and emotionally resonant narratives. With the growing popularity of K-dramas in India, adapting ‘Something in the Rain’ presented an exciting opportunity to bring a much-loved Korean story to Indian audiences while preserving the emotional depth and essence of the original. We’re delighted to have partnered with SLL to bring this story to life for viewers across the country, further demonstrating how compelling narratives can transcend cultures and resonate with audiences across generations.”

Charles Park, Content Business Director at SLL, said, “Something in the Rain’ is about love, relationships, and having the courage to make your own choices, and those are themes people everywhere can relate to. ‘Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar’ shows how a Korean story can be reshaped for local audiences without losing what made the original special. We look forward to working with more local partners to bring SLL’s stories to viewers around the world.”
