Sony YAY! Secures Master Licensing Rights for Iconic Animated Franchise Swat Kats in India

In a strategic move to further strengthen its IP portfolio, Sony YAY! has acquired the master licensing rights for the iconic animated property Swat Kats in India. This acquisition reflects the brand’s commitment to enhancing its L&M vertical by onboarding high-equity, legacy franchises with pan-generational appeal and established brand value.

Originally launched in the early 1990s, Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron is regarded as one of the most enduring action-animation titles of its time. Known for its futuristic storytelling, stylized aerial combat, and tech-enabled protagonists, the show commands a loyal fanbase across age groups—appealing to audiences aged 8–14 as well as older viewers with nostalgic affinity for the franchise.

As master licensee, Sony YAY! now holds exclusive rights to sublicense Swat Kats across a comprehensive range of categories including apparel, toys, games, school merchandise, digital products, and live events. The brand’s go-to-market approach will be centred around high-quality, locally relevant product curation, strategic partnerships with top-tier licensees, and a retail strategy designed to ensure scale and visibility.
