New Delhi, 6th May, 2026: In a defining milestone for the future of global healthcare, SS Innovations International, Inc. (SSII) has successfully demonstrated a complex long distance robotic telesurgery using its indigenous SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System and the portable MantrAsana Tele-Surgeon Console, connecting Perth, Australia, to Indore, India, across a distance of over 10,000 kilometres.
Dr. Mohit Bhandari, a renowned Indian bariatric surgeon known for his expertise in laparoscopic and robotic surgery, remotely performed a robotic gastrojejunostomy on a patient in Indore while operating from Perth, Australia. The highly complex surgical intervention was executed with remarkable precision in approximately three minutes, underscoring the reliability, responsiveness, and clinical readiness of SSII’s next generation tele surgical ecosystem. The round-trip transmission latency, encompassing both data and video signals, remained below 150 ms.
The live telesurgery was conducted during the scientific session of the Annual Scientific Congress 2026 of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), held in Perth from April 30 to May 3, 2026, serving as a global demonstration of how advanced robotic surgery can transcend geographical boundaries.
Dr. Mohit Bhandari, President, IRCAD India and Founder & Director of Mohak Bariatric and Robotic Surgery Centre, Indore, said, “This telesurgical milestone demonstrates that distance is no longer a barrier in delivering advanced surgical care. Performing a complex robotic gastrojejunostomy from Perth on a patient in Indore with such precision validates the robustness of the made in India SSI Mantra platform and the transformative capabilities of MantrAsana. This is not just a technological achievement, it is a new model for global, collaborative, patient centric healthcare.”
Speaking about the surgical feat, Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman and CEO, SS Innovations International, Inc. expressed,” I would like to congratulate Dr. Mohit and the entire team on successfully achieving this landmark 10,000-kilometre telesurgery between Australia and India. This milestone marks a significant step forward in advancing connected healthcare globally and reflects our core vision of making advanced robotic surgery accessible across geographies and healthcare systems. Powered by our indigenous SSI Mantra and MantrAsana platforms, this achievement reinforces India’s growing leadership in surgical innovation and demonstrates the potential of technology to enable seamless, borderless care delivery. We remain committed to our vision of democratizing robotic surgery and expanding access to high-quality, technology-enabled healthcare worldwide.”
The procedure was powered by the SSI Mantra, India’s first indigenous surgical robotic platform, integrated with MantrAsana, SSII’s portable tele-surgeon console engineered for real-time remote intervention through ultra-low latency connectivity, high definition visualization, and precise instrument control.
This achievement marks another major step toward democratizing access to advanced surgical care, enabling expert surgeons to operate across continents and bringing world-class treatment closer to patients regardless of location.
The successful demonstration received strong appreciation from leading surgeons, clinicians, and delegates from across the global surgical community attending the congress, further reinforcing the immense potential of robotic telesurgery in expanding access to specialized surgical expertise worldwide.
