In a candid and wide-ranging conversation on Live Times’ flagship prime-time show Point Blank with Deepak Chaurasia, senior Congress leader, member of a CWC and head of the disciplinary committee-Tariq Ahmed, shared his candid assessment of the political scenario in Bihar ahead of the upcoming elections. The special episode will air on Sunday, 12th October at 8:00 PM
Answering questions on leadership and strategy in the upcoming Bihar elections, Tariq Ahmed asserted that Tejashwi Yadav is the clear Chief Ministerial face of the alliance. “It’s but obvious — Tejashwi will be our CM candidate. The announcement will be made at the right time, but there’s no second opinion on that,” he said.
Speaking on the Congress’s position in the state, Tariq Anwar admitted his congress party failure, “Yes, Congress has been weak in Bihar. After our poor performance in the last elections, we should have started working harder immediately, but we failed to do so — that’s our shortcoming. However, this time, we’re fully committed to rebuilding our base and reconnecting with the people.”
On the issue of infiltration, Anwar dismissed the BJP’s narrative outright. “There is no infiltration in Bihar. It’s purely a polarisation tactic by the BJP. Even during my own visits and ground assessments, I didn’t find any such issue. It’s a false narrative being pushed for electoral gains,” he emphasized.
Commenting on AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s prospects, Anwar said, “This time, Owaisi will not perform like he did last time. The people of Bihar have understood that his entry only helps the BJP indirectly. Bihar’s voters are politically aware and won’t fall for that again.”
On the political strategist-turned-activist Prashant Kishor, Tariq Anwar rejected PK as an X factor to impact the results. Offering a measured view: “There’s no doubt Prashant Kishor has worked hard and travelled extensively, but it’s difficult to assess whose votes he will impact.”
Highlighting the significance of the discussion, Dilip Singh, Founder of Live Times, said, “This interview adds a crucial perspective from the Congress camp. Point Blank continues to bring candid, fact-based conversations with the people who shape India’s politics.”
