Nowadays the fact is that production transparency and blockchain technology are the partners that help in the process of transformation of supply chain management. The main aim of the farmer connect is to reduce the inefficiencies in the people’s food supply, which means the process of removing the middleman and third-party services and includes taking from the small farmer’s bottom line. To validate the food crop, Blockchain technology will be used. In the case of coffee, this technology is used to the farmer and its source location. The initiation of blockchain authentication and identification might not pave way for the growth of Smucker’s profits, but this will provide a chance for the farmers to manage their crops directly with the broader market. Implementing such an announcement between Farmer Connect, IBM and Smucker is a prototype for the introduction of new blockchain ventures.

The first large U.S food brand to use this service is, Folger. In an announcement, IBM said that the by introducing IBM’s blockchain technology, the consumer can trace out the information about their coffee back to its origin on a platform which may lead to increase the efficiency, traceability, and fairness in the coffee supply chain. This farmer connect website will give the data about the location where the coffee was grown, processed, and exported. With this information, consumers can decide whether the drink in their hand was part of clean water and small farm agricultural initiatives.

The senior vice president at the J.M. Smucker company mentioned that they know that the customers are very much interested to know the transparency in the supply chain about the product they use and they are even committed to helping in developing this as a part of their coffee sustainability strategy. Even the general manager added that their involvement of work with Farmer Connect and IBM not only helps to connect coffee lovers to the producers who produce their morning drink, it also provides them an opportunity to support those hardworking smallholder farmer and their families.

IBM is the trending vendor to produce a blockchain platform for coffee bean growers looking to know about their product on its chain to market – and let consumers start to trace their java back to the farm to come to know about the details for where and how it’s grown.

There is an announcement regarding the partnership of Farmer Connect with Smucker’s Folgers to use the IBM blockchain platform that connects producer to customer. This will be a very effective one for the consumer who buys 1850 coffee using QR code.
