UNDP launches #ClimateCounts campaign to combat climate misinformation and encourage collective action

New Delhi, 20 November: As climate information proliferates and spreads rapidly online, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has launched #ClimateCounts, a global campaign spotlighting 30 verified climate facts through compelling visuals. The campaign is designed to cut through misinformation, bring evidence-based climate facts to the forefront of public conversation and make climate change feel personal and urgent.

It is part of UNDP’s efforts to spark conversations and mobilize communities for collaborative action, as global leaders meet at COP 30 Climate Conference, being held in Belem, Brazil from November 10 to 21. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement – a significant milestone for climate action.

As part of this global effort, UNDP India is spotlighting one of India’s defining achievements – 50% of the country’s installed electricity capacity comes from non-fossil fuel sources. This underscores India’s steady transition toward cleaner energy and its growing leadership in the Global South on climate action.

#ClimateCounts reminds us that progress is possible when we act together, guided by science and evidence,” said Dr. Angela Lusigi, Resident Representative, UNDP India. “India’s clean energy progress shows what can be achieved when ambition is matched by action. Through this campaign, we hope to encourage informed choices that empower people and communities to drive a more sustainable and resilient future.”

Globally, #ClimateCounts will engage UNDP’s Goodwill Ambassadors and youth climate champions to help share these facts and inspire change. In India, the campaign is being amplified by UNDP’s National SDG Advocate Bhumi Pednekar and Youth Climate Champion Prajakta Koli.

The campaign will be available in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, with more languages being added later down the line. The campaign seeks to bridge information gaps and strengthen climate literacy, empowering communities to take, and demand for more effective climate action.

The #ClimateCounts campaign extends UNDP’s climate action work, supported by evidence-based science.  Through the Climate Promise, the UN’s largest climate portfolio, UNDP supports more than 140 countries with over US$2.45 billion in grant financing. This work draws on UNDP’s expertise in adaptation, mitigation, carbon markets, climate and forests, climate risk and security, and climate strategies and policy. In India, with over US$ 200 million in grant financing, UNDP partners with several Ministries, the private sector, philanthropic foundations, and civil society organisations to implement projects on climate change and disaster risk reduction.
