The ongoing coronavirus pandemic is impacting each one of our lives, from the place we attend, the way we spend our time, to the priorities we’ve, and the way we spend our money. And, this has created a wide range of problems for advertising, marketing and e-commerce and also in several other sectors like travel, entertainment, and FMCG.

Just around three weeks after the government started easing lockdown restrictions for the online delivery of goods, India’s e-commerce sector seemed to be on a recovery stage. According to e-commerce focused cloud solution provider Unicommerce, 70 percent of the pre-COVID order volume has been regained by the e-commerce sector which is led by Amazon, Grofers, Snapdeal, Bigbasket, Snapdeal, etc.

Unicommerce which is the leading global E-commerce Supply Chain Solution helps to automate supply chain operations for offline and online businesses to sell more. It processes over 20 percent of e-commerce volume with over 10,000 e-commerce sellers using its services to sell on multiple e-commerce platforms across which includes Urban Company, Myntra, and multiple brands such as Jack and Jones, Forever New, etc.

Unicommerce through its solutions processes 5 lakh daily orders. The Government had allowed e-commerce companies to take orders for non-essential goods as well and deliver them in green and orange zones from May 4 onwards during lockdown3.0. And in the latest lockdown further relaxations have been given to the e-commerce operations to service red zone too except the containment areas. And after the relaxation has been announced, Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, etc have claimed 65 percent orders coming from the red zone on day 1.

If focusing on the products and accessories, apparels saw 40 percent order volume back to the pre-COVID level. The other categories of products that the people are ordering are USB cables, trimmers, chargers, etc. Also, a significant increase in coolers and ACs is seen. In the coming weeks, the number is likely to increase for home decor. On the other hand, the eyewear segment witnessed orders decreasing by almost 45-50 percent.

Kapil Makhija, CEO, Unicommerce said, that the company is expecting to have a major surge in the long run and the number of online sellers is also expected to be increased in the coming months. The company has already seen inquiries doubling since the last month.
