CRED explores Ravi Shastri’s wild side of yore in a new spot.

In the new spot, the former India cricketer and men’s team coach enjoys life king-size and with grace, whether it’s giving one back to the journalists, instructing his team in the ways of partying, hurling one-liners to women at the bar, or being respectful of every last drop.

Tanmay Bhat, Puneet Chadha, Vishal Dayama, and Deep Joshi collaborated on the commercial alongside Devaiah Bopanna. Shastri’s appearance in the CRED commercial is a departure from the nostalgic advertising that the credit card bill payment rewards app had been airing throughout the IPL this year.

Karisma Kapoor reprised the Nirma ad from the 1990s, Renuka Shahane and Annu Kapoor presented Antakshari once more, and a third ad was inspired by the basic yet amusing banter between the characters in the 1990s ad.

Also, unlike Rahul Dravid becoming irate or a bunch of cricketers establishing a boy band in CRED’s IPL 2021 advertising, Shastri’s portrayal as a guy who appreciates the good life isn’t far off from his genuine character.

CRED’s partnership with the IPL began in 2020, when the company produced a series of advertisements portraying celebrities auditioning for a part in a CRED commercial.

“As Mr Shastri noted, a day with him is never dull,” Ayappa, co-founder of Early Man Film and director of the Shastri commercial, said in a press release.

We had a terrific time shooting and learning about his wild side. He was quite the athlete, pun intended.” “At CRED, we are continuously working to enhance members’ experience to make it more engaging, seamless, and rewarding,” stated Kunal Shah, founder of CRED, in a news release.

We are strengthening our message of rewarding the proper financial actions and the benefits that come with being a member of the CRED community with a new design philosophy, gamified rewards constructs, best deals, and high value jackpots.”

The CRED commercials have been a feature of the IPL since 2020 and have done enough to raise brand awareness, but what happens now after all these years? Until we hear back, how about “two cough syrups on the rocks,” as Shastri suggests.
