Digi Yatra Crosses 100 Million Usages, Strengthening India’s Privacy-First Digital Identity Ecosystem

Targets expansion to 27 more airports by 2027 and advances international live trials

Bengaluru, 3rd June 2026: Digi Yatra, India’s decentralised digital identity platform, has crossed a landmark 100 million passenger journeys, underscoring the rapid adoption of seamless, contactless, and consent-based travel across the country’s aviation ecosystem. With over 24 million app downloads, the platform continues to witness strong momentum as passengers increasingly embrace secure and privacy-first digital travel experiences.

Built on a privacy-by-design architecture, Digi Yatra empowers passengers with greater control over their personal information. The platform leverages Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) principles, ensuring that user credentials remain encrypted, consent-driven, and decentralized, without the need for centralized storage of personal data.

Building on this foundation, Digi Yatra is entering its next phase of growth with a focus on expanding airport coverage, enhancing accessibility through regional language support, enabling international interoperability, and exploring new use cases beyond aviation.

Currently operational across 38 airports, Digi Yatra plans to extend its footprint to 27 additional airports by 2027, bringing seamless digital travel experiences to millions of additional passengers across India. The expansion aligns with the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s vision of leveraging technology to enhance passenger convenience while creating a more efficient and future-ready aviation ecosystem.

Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO, Digi Yatra Foundation, said, “100+ million passenger journeys reflects the growing trust passengers have placed in Digi Yatra’s privacy-first approach to digital identity. As we expand to more airports, introduce additional regional languages, advance international interoperability, and explore new applications beyond aviation, our focus remains on building infrastructure that is secure, inclusive, and user-controlled. The opportunity ahead is to create trusted digital identity frameworks that can support multiple sectors while upholding the principles of privacy, consent, and interoperability.”

As part of its expansion roadmap to further strengthen inclusivity and accessibility, Digi Yatra (which already supports 11 regional languages) prepares to introduce support for all 22 Indian languages by 2027. The Foundation is also advancing India’s vision for contactless international travel. Following the successful completion of an IATA-aligned international travel proof of concept, Digi Yatra is preparing to commence live international trials in collaboration with ecosystem stakeholders. The initiative aims to enable seamless and secure international journeys through verifiable credentials and consent-based identity sharing while maintaining user privacy.

Beyond aviation, Digi Yatra continues to explore opportunities to extend its privacy-first digital identity framework to other sectors. During the second half of 2026 and early 2027, the Foundation plans to evaluate and pilot select non-aviation use cases, leveraging secure digital identity, biometric authentication, and consent-based credential sharing to simplify user experiences while maintaining the highest standards of privacy and trust.

As Digi Yatra enters its next phase of growth, the platform continues to demonstrate how trusted digital identity infrastructure can deliver convenience at scale while preserving privacy, security, and user choice.
