The year 2022 has gone with thoughts and ideas, success stories, and achievements. While preparing ourselves for the future days ahead this is also time to stop and reminisce about the year that is- rethink our learnings, be grateful for our triumphs, and imbibe wisdom from our mistakes.

Deepshikha Dharmaraj, chief executive officer, of BCW India group, shares her thought about the year that was and the global PR practices she would like to see the Indian PR fraternity adopt. She also answered many questions related to this industry.

What were the changes she had seen in the PR industry in the year 2022?

Return to normalcy:

Deepshikha Dharmaraj says ‘’ I think the biggest change if I can call it that, was in how we came out (to a large extent) from under the constant, debilitating shadow of the pandemic to reach a reasonably high level of normalcy. We were all taking the first steps in hybrid ways of working when we began the year 2022. The choice is not between remote working versus hybrid ways of working in today’s work life. In today’s work life, virtual and digital-first communication is still relevant as it was in the pandemic, but today’s purpose for that is not just to connect but to have an active collaboration and two-way communication.

Shifting expectations at work:

The need to engage with the employees in new and different ways and meet their expectations are the big changes in today’s workplace. BCW has surveyed over 13000 people from across the world, including India-to deliver the 2022 expectations at work study and for that BCW has partnered with m Mercury Analytics and PSB Insights LLC., to meet those expectations. This survey did not just cover expectations from across the world and industries but also covers the different generations.

Higher need for policy advocacy and public affairs:

There is an increasing need for policy advocacy and public affairs, as the regulatory environment gets more and more complex. This is very important in terms of educating clients on the changes to the landscape and how to adopt them as well as engaging with the government to let them know what the industry needs for its growth.
