A strategic partnership between Eros Investments and IIT Bombay has been established in order to build and develop Kurosawa, an AI-based tool for autonomous screenplay development. Eros Investments is a leading Global Media, Entertainment, and Technology portfolio of businesses. Kurosawa, which is named after the renowned Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa, is an innovative effort to equip the entertainment sector with cutting-edge technology to produce a complete feature film script. The programme will help movie producers create the storylines and scripts for their films. In addition, a whitepaper on Kurosawa will be produced by IIT Bombay for scholarly and research reasons.

Over a year has passed since the teams from IIT Bombay and Eros began working together on Kurosawa. Kurosawa will assist in choosing the appropriate genre, produce a logline and description, and deliver a potentially successful script that may be further adjusted as needed. Kurosawa is currently capable of producing numerous compelling stories and scenes from a single input. For instance, it may develop genre-specific movie scripts based on genre(s) and a brief prompt of two to three sentences. On the basis of a brief description, it can also generate scenes in a conventional screenplay manner.

A branch of natural language generation is called automatic movie script generation (NLG). With little assistance from humans, the machine can learn plot and scene generation from the pre-existing data.

Swaneet Singh, Director at Eros Investments, spoke on the event and stated, “This collaboration of the left and right brains between Eros Investments and IIT Bombay is a great example. Innovative and cutting-edge technology like Kurosawa will completely change the entertainment industry. The programme will take care of the background labour, allowing scriptwriters to concentrate on creativity and quality. With this invention, Eros Investments has reached a new milestone that will eventually serve as a case study.”
Prof. Milind Atrey, the dean of research and development at IIT Bombay, continued, “Kurosawa will be a fantastic opportunity to expertly revolutionise the narrative craft and increase productivity for content producers. We are pleased to work with Eros Investments, headed by Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya of IIT Bombay, to automate the scripting process for the entertainment sector. As a result of the study, IIT Bombay will also jointly release a white paper on Kurosawa that will be utilised for educational and research reasons, aiding the next generation that is trying to create a name for themselves in the sector.”
