The India e-commerce-based company, Flipkart introduced voice assistant capability on its platform to make its customers shop on their platform more easily. The voice assistant is introduced in Supermart, Flipkart’s online grocery store. The voice assistant will help customers discover and buy products using voice commands in different languages like Hindi, English, etc. This voice assistant capability of Flipkart is a solution for speech recognition, natural language understanding, machine learning, and text to speech for Indian languages. The voice-first conversational Artificial intelligence platform can understand vernacular languages like Hindi and it helps users in searching a product, understand the product details, quality, place an order, and track the delivery. Now the voice assistant for the online grocery stores is available only in Flipkart’s mobile app on android devices but the team is preparing to launch the assistance in IOS and website very soon. The company responded to the new feature of Flipkart that it is an AI platform developed to build automatically detect the user’s language and in real-time translate and understand user’s shopping-related queries.

The voice assistant was developed after five months of detailed ethnographic study in multiple towns and cities to get insights and find the opportunities. From the insights of the study, users want the voice assistants to do a different task and thus Flipkart believes that these new initiatives will provide a more personalized experience for the customers. Jeyendran Venugopal, Flipkart’s Chief Product, and Technology Officer told that Flipkart is always in the path of developing new initiatives to make the customers’ life easier. They saw a great adoption for the video and vernacular offerings so now they aim to develop a solution for the voice capability for e-commerce.

The found this as the right time to introduce voice assistant capability since there is an increase in their grocery business growth.
