The decision was made after 55 percent of IndiGo’s domestic flights were delayed on Saturday due to a large number of cabin crew workers who reportedly went to an Air India recruitment drive while purportedly taking sick leave.
The pilots’ salaries at low-cost airline Interglobe Aviation (IndiGo) have increased by 8%.
This action follows the Saturday delay of 55% of IndiGo’s domestic flights due to a large number of cabin crew workers who reportedly went to an Air India recruitment drive while apparently taking sick leave. Arun Kumar, the chairman of the organisation that regulates aviation, responded, “We are looking into this,” when questioned about it on Sunday. The majority of IndiGo’s cabin crew personnel who took sick leave participated in phase 2 of Air India’s recruiting campaign on Saturday, according to sources in the industry.
According to the Financial Express article, IndiGo has also increased the overtime pay for pilots to the pre-Covid level. All of the modifications will take effect on August 1st, 2022.
The airline had raised pilots’ pay earlier in April by 8% in light of the consistent flying operations. “Now that we have established continuous steady operations, on behalf of our managing director, the board of directors, and the senior leadership team, I am pleased to announce an upward revision of eight percent in the salaries of all our pilots with effect from April 1,” said Ashim Mittra, senior vice-president (flight operations), IndiGo, according to PTI. In the event that there are no interruptions, it had stated that another increase of 6.5 percent will take effect in November. However, several pilots decided to stage a strike because they were still dissatisfied.
The largest airline in India, IndiGo, presently runs about 1,600 domestic and international flights every day. The air-bubble arrangements in India came to an end on March 27, 2022, when regularly scheduled international aircraft operations to foreign destinations began again.
Due of the COVID pandemic, the nation had stopped all regularly scheduled international flights as of March 23, 2020.
Affected severely by the epidemic, IndiGo said in March 2020 that it will reduce senior personnel’ compensation. Vice presidents and the cockpit crew both saw compensation cuts of 15%, while IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta accepted a 25% pay cut. The largest airline in India, IndiGo, has declared that it will increase the salaries of its pilots by an additional 8% starting on August 1 following the announcement that over 900 of its flights were delayed because of a lack of workers and cabin crew. In addition to raising salaries, IndiGo will reinstate pilot overtime pay to its pre-Covid level.
Prior to this, the airline had previously declared on March 31 that pilot wages had increased by 8% due to the consistent, reliable flight operations.
