On June 2, a jury in Virginia found Johnny Depp‘s ex-wife Amber Heard defamed him in a 2018 op-ed. Depp was defamed by Heard, according to the ruling, when she stated in the op-ed that she was a “public figure symbolising domestic abuse.

” However, one of Depp’s lawyers was found to have defamed her as well.Johnny Depp was granted $15 million in compensation and punitive penalties by the jury, but the judge lowered the punitive damages decision to $10.35 million owing to legal limits.

Amber Heard was given a $2 million damage award by the jury.
Amber Heard expressed her “heartbreak” following the decision. “I believe Johnny’s lawyers were successful in persuading the jury to disregard the basic issue of freedom of expression, as well as compelling evidence that helped us win in the UK.”
“My life, the lives of my children, the lives of those closest to me, and the lives of those who have supported and believed in me for many years were irreparably changed six years ago,” Johnny Depp said on his Instagram account.
. Everything happened in the blink of an eye.”
“False, severe, and criminal claims were made about me in the media, resulting in a never-ending bombardment of nasty information, despite the fact that no charges were ever filed against me.

It had already travelled twice around the world in a moment, leaving an indelible mark on my life and profession. The jury returned my life to me six years later. “Johnny Depp wrote the script, and I’m really humbled.”

“Knowing full well the seriousness of the legal challenges I would face, as well as the inevitable global spotlight on my life, I made the decision to pursue this matter only after much deliberation.

Regardless of the outcome, the purpose of this case has always been to uncover the truth.
I owed it to my children and everyone else who has stuck with me to speak the truth. According to Depp, “I’m relieved that I’ve finally finished that work.

Over the course of three days, the seven-member civil jury debated for nearly 12 hours.

The trial was streamed live on television and was seen by millions of people on social media.
The aftermath of both accusations occupied most of the trial’s last days, with Depp declaring, “I lost nothing less than everything,” and Heard accusing him of attempting to remove her capacity to work.

“As I stand here today, I can’t have a job,” Heard said at the trial’s conclusion, crying for the second time on the witness stand. “I’m hoping to regain my voice. That’s all I’m looking for.”
