National, August 27, 2026: Akasa Air, India’s fastest-growing airline, continues to see strong demand for pet-friendly travel through its Pets on Akasa service, reflecting a growing preference among Indian travellers to include their pets in their journeys. On International Dog Day, the airline is spotlighting some of its most frequent canine flyers and the growing trend of travelling together with furry companions.
Leading the pack is Romeo, a miniature poodle and service dog, who has travelled 28 times with Akasa Air since his first journey on 3 March 2023. Frequently flying across Goa, Delhi and Mumbai, Romeo is Akasa Air’s most travelled canine passenger. He is joined by fellow frequent flyers Zoey, a Shih Tzu who has travelled 18 times between Mumbai and Delhi, and Coffee, another Shih Tzu who has travelled 14 times on the Goa-Mumbai route.
Their journeys reflect a broader shift among pet parents, with more travellers choosing to bring their pets along as part of their travel plans. Since April 2025, over 2,187 dogs have travelled on Akasa Air, including 1,399 dogs in calendar year 2026 alone.
Across the network, Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Goa have emerged as the leading cities for dog travel, accounting for nearly three-fourths of all journeys. Routes such as Bengaluru-Delhi, Bengaluru-Kolkata, Mumbai-Delhi, Goa-Delhi and Bengaluru-Guwahati continue to be among the most popular for customers travelling with their dogs.
Akasa Air’s pet travel data also points to increased demand during the winter and spring travel season, particularly in October, November, December, January and March. Among the dogs travelling on the airline, Shih Tzus, Poodles, Maltese and Beagles are among the most popular breeds, accounting for over 60% of canine travellers.
As India’s pet-friendly travel ecosystem continues to evolve, Akasa Air remains committed to enabling seamless journeys for customers and their pets through Pets on Akasa, making it easier for families to travel together and create shared experiences in the skies.
