From the gold and silver counters of Soni Bazaar to the commodity mandis of Gondal, Rajkot has a long-standing relationship with trade and markets. That story, spanning generations of traders and the shift from physical share certificates to one-tap digital investing, is now at the heart of HDFC SKY’s new video series, The King of Trades.
The series opens with Episode 1, The History of Rajkot, which looks at how the city’s trading culture has evolved over the years. It features conversations with veteran traders who witnessed this transformation first-hand, offering a glimpse into how Rajkot’s markets, businesses and investing habits have changed across generations.
“The screens changed. The markets evolved. But Rajkot’s trading spirit continues across generations,” the series notes, capturing the connection between the city’s traditional trading communities and today’s digital markets.
Rajkot has long been an important commercial centre in Gujarat, with trading deeply woven into the city’s business culture. As investing has moved from physical certificates and trading floors to digital platforms, many of those traditional habits and attitudes towards markets have continued to evolve with it.
Through The King of Trades, HDFC SKY is bringing these stories to the forefront, using Rajkot as a lens to explore how India’s investing culture has changed beyond the country’s major financial centres. The series puts the spotlight on the traders and communities who have been part of that journey, while showing how technology is shaping the next chapter of investing.
