Mumbai, 2nd June 2026: ReFiber, powered by OterRi, will launch Mumbai’s Mega Post-Consumer Textile Waste Collection & Upcycling Initiative on World Environment Day, June 5, 2026, at the MVIRDC World Trade Centre, Mumbai. The initiative aims to build a circular textile ecosystem by collecting, sorting, recovering and upcycling post-consumer textile waste while creating measurable environmental and social impact.
The launch will be graced by Chief Guest Ms. Vrunda Desai, Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and Special Guest Dia Mirza, acclaimed actor, producer, champion of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UNEP Goodwill Ambassador and eco-investor.
A key highlight of the event will be the inauguration of the ReFiber Upcycled Products Marketplace, featuring Tisser’s upcycled products. Through this marketplace, Tisser’s products will be made available across India, creating wider market access and empowering women artisans and self-help groups through sustainable livelihood opportunities. The initiative reinforces ReFiber’s commitment to transforming textile waste into value while creating meaningful economic opportunities for women and communities.
Speaking on the significance of the launch, Mr. Shrikant Bhangdiya (MD & CEO) – MKS ECOSPHERE LLP – ReFiber (powered by OterRi) said, “The Public launch of ReFiber marks a significant step towards building a scalable circular textile ecosystem for India. The initiative brings together a strong ecosystem of partners, in collaboration with Tisser as the Women Empowerment & Upcycling Partner; the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) as the Industry Association Partner; the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) as the International Knowledge & Sustainability Partner; World Trade Centre Mumbai as the Venue & Institutional Partner; and Lions International as the Community Engagement Partner. Together, these organisations are committed to advancing a circular textile economy, promoting responsible consumption, empowering women-led livelihoods and creating lasting environmental and social impact.
The launch event will convene industry leaders, sustainability experts, institutions, innovators and community stakeholders to discuss pathways for building a sustainable textile ecosystem in India while encouraging citizens to participate in responsible textile disposal, reuse and upcycling.
