The World Economic Forum (WEF) brought a group of CEOs and chairpersons from some of the world’s largest companies expanded over 17 nations. Nearly 30 people were there. The group expressed that the trading structure must reconcile to address new concerns of global resiliency, sustainability, and inclusivity.

Nations across the globe must stand together despite the geopolitical tensions. They should involve in trade reforms while abstaining from isolationism.

The signatories were from twelve sectors. Food and beverages, retail, payments, financial sector, e-commerce, chemicals, telecommunications, logistics, energy, commodities, professional services, supply chain, and transport, etc. were represented.  Their call to action comes at a time of important geopolitical tensions and economic dynamics.

Through jointly upholding environmental and social standards, trade cooperation should prevent a race to the bottom and avoid harmful distortions to markets for goods and services. Trade cooperation can improve outcomes for underrepresented members of society, including women and minorities,” the CEOs said in their joint statement.

The leaders of the Trade and Investment Community of the World Economic Forum said that it is time for higher global ambition for trade cooperation. A change is necessary and achievable at this time.

They highlighted the potential of trade and investment for recovery and development. Immediate progress on investment, digital, health, and environmental matters is demanded. Only businesses can help with implementing reforms.

In 2019’s Ipsos-World Economic Forum report 87 per cent of the people said that globalization is good. But now there is a 10 per cent dip. Only 75 per cent of the people support globalization and believe that it is good for development. This points out the distrust on their part about the contemporary processes and directions of trade.

Trade and investment are necessary for the development and progress of humans. It encourages people to exchange commodities and services, get good income via satisfying employment, receive the benefits of a customer and develop good enterprise.

When trade and investment face any perils, it also affects the livelihoods of common people. The world needs to reflect what is the importance of business and what it wants from trade.

The governments should involve in dispute settlements and solve concerns and worries about subsidies, taxes, and other things in the agricultural, industrial, and service sectors.
