Amazon Internet Services Revenue increases 58% in FY20

Amazon Internet Services Private Limited, an Indian subsidiary coming under the Amazon Group which conducts the resale and marketing business of AWS Cloud services in India, has seen a clear cut 58 per cent hike in their total revenue at Rs 4161.6 crore for the fiscal year ended 31st March 2020 in comparison to the Rs 2637.2 crore in the previous fiscal.

The income hike in Amazon internet Services is mainly attributable to the high usage of cloud and other associated services by prevailing and new customers in India. AISPL is a fully owned subsidiary company of Amazon Asia-Pacific Resources Private Limited. As per the financial data given by business intelligence platform Tofler, expenditure which excludes depreciation, increased to Rs 4131.7 crore from the previous Rs 2579.3 crore. The company had a net loss of Rs 20 lakh as opposed to a net profit of Rs 71.1 crore. The company also stated a huge profit before tax of almost Rs 37.6 crore in comparison to the last year’s profit before tax of Rs 137.8 crore.

The revenue from cloud-related services increased to Rs 4005.5 crore from Rs 2483.9 crore whereas the revenue from marketing services stood at Rs 156.1 crore in comparison with the Rs 153.3 crore. The company stated that the cloud-related services contain revenue earned from sales of computer storage, database, and other cloud-related service offerings along with training for the start-ups, enterprises, government agencies and academic institutions in our country.

As per the recent news report, Amazon Web Services is observing strong interest of its services from start-ups in the country across sectors like e-commerce, logistics, fintech and healthcare.

Amazon Web Services, which is competing with major players like Microsoft and Google in the cloud computing sector, is preparing to invest almost Rs 20,761 crore in setting up their second data centre region in Telangana which will start operations from 2022.

The different AWS customers in our country comprise of Ashok Leyland, Aditya Birla Capital Ltd, Axis Bank, Quantela, Bajaj Capital, ClearTax, Dream11, RBL Bank, Druva, Edelweiss, Edunext, Freshworks, HDFC Life, Mahindra Electric, Ola cabs, Oyo, RedBus, Sharda University, Swiggy – food delivery giant, Extramarks, Tata Sky, YuppTV, Policybazaar, Zerodha, and many other top companies. The Government agencies, many educational establishments, and non-profits which includes Common Service Centres are also using AWS’ services.
