Dettol launches its campaign for Swatch Bharat Swasth Bharat

Dettol Banega Swasth India launched the Swachh Bharat Swasth Bharat Yatra campaign to increase awareness of health, hygiene, and sanitation through a series of 90 Nukkad Nataks (Street plays) performed on boats across the ghats in Varanasi along with school students of Gorakhpur. The campaign was started under the leadership of Reckitt and was implemented by PLAN India. The journey embarked to inspire children, communities, and individuals aimed at helping people to develop conscious hand hygiene practices. 

Padma Shri 2022 awardee Swami Sivananda Swamiji, Dr. Daya Shankar Mishra, who is Minister of State in the Ministry of Aayush of Uttar Pradesh, Mayor of Varanasi Smt. Mridula Jaiswal, Additional Education Director of Varanasi Dr. Umesh Shukla, and District Education Officer of Varanasi Dr. Rakesh Singh were among those present at the launch of the Swachh Bharat Swasth Bharat Yatra campaign. 

Mr. Ravi Bhatnagar who was the Director in External Affairs & Partnerships SOA, Reckitt, speaking about the campaign, said that with the Dettol Banega Swasth India campaign, India has been at the forefront of using innovative campaigns to promote and enforce positive hygienic behavior to people by hosting engaging activities with children.

He went on to say that the main goal is to raise awareness about hand hygiene and help spread the message of general health through the use of creative formats led by culturally adaptive communication changes. The Dettol Banega Swasth India campaign aims to empower local communities to drive long-term behavioral change in each of their lives.

Smt. Mridula Jaiswal who was the Mayor of Varanasi said that Dettol Banega Swasth India’s unique campaign to reach out to children through Nukkad Nataks (street plays) is yet another novel technique to reach out to children for health and cleanliness. This campaign has once again demonstrated its significance in the lives of students and the community.

Swami Sivananda Swamiji, who was awarded Padma Shri in 2022, expressed his gratitude, saying that the Swach Bharat Swasth Bharat Yatra is an example of the Dettol Banega Swasth India Program’s efforts to make children change agents of hygiene and that everyone should urge that every child be associated with the project for a healthier future.

The Swachh Bharat Swasth Bharat Yatra began in Varanasi with a Ganga Yatra, an 84-ghat journey of the Ganges (from Assi ghat to Raj Ghat), followed by Nukkad Natak (Street dramas) performances by teams in three boats. With the mesmerizing lights of Ganga Aarti, the ceremony drew to a close.

The campaign took 150 faculties on a tour of the ghats, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness, health, and the environment through various activities. Over 45 schools were involved in the campaign, which reached out to 300 teachers and 10,000 students.
