Amidst the hectic schedule, one of the boring things is waiting for the caller to pick up the phone. Some random recorded messages or caller tones will be playing till the call connects. Most of the people will lose their patience while waiting. As a treat for handling such situations, Google has launched the “Hold for me” feature exclusively for its pixel users.

Google’s new AI feature “Hold for me” is designed for Google’s Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a US users. The exciting thing about this feature is that it enables the user to leave the phone down and carry on with their other important activities. In the meantime, the AI secretary would wait on the call on behalf of the caller.

Thus Google’s AI tools will take over the role of an automatic secretary and connects with the call center. Once the callee picks up the call, it will send a notification to the caller to get back to the phone since the callee has been connected.

In the meantime, Google’s Assistant will ask the call center to hold the call because they may disconnect the call due to dead air. Thus AI takes care of both the ends of the call. This feature in turn helps the callers to utilize their time effectively and assists them in all viable ways to in getting connected to the callee.

Since “Hold for me” has been powered by Google’s Duplex technology, it has the potential to recognize hold music. It is quite fascinating in differentiating a recorded message from a representative online. Google takes this part at its best to avoid the limitation of this feature. Looking at a broader perspective, the service has some limitations.

To point out a few, The initial rollout is a limited version to pixel users. Further, no clarification is made for the announcement of similar plans on other devices. This service is limited only to US pixel users for toll-free numbers. Most importantly Google is using one of the controversial technologies Google’s Duplex. To overcome this challenge and make this feature “User friendly” Google has to work on telephone-based automation.
