Google announced on Wednesday it has extended its career service, named Kormo Jobs, to India as the search engine seeks to give a helping hand to millions pursuing entry-level jobs and further displace the importance of Microsoft’s LinkedIn in the world’s second-largest Web sector.

They launched Kormo Jobs in Bangladesh for the first time in 2018 and extended it last year to Indonesia. Even last year Google made Kormo available as a location on the Google Pay platform in India under the name Jobs.

After making Jobs available as a Spot, Google claims a variety of businesses have listed more than 2 million checked jobs on the website, including Zomato and Dunzo — a Bangalore-based startup that it has invested in.

Google is rebranding its Google Pay’s Jobs Spot as Kormo Jobs in India, and also making its standalone Android app available in one of its key overseas markets.

In addition to helping users find available entry-level positions for jobs, the Kormo Jobs app is also designed to help them learn new skills and build a CV with ease.

Bickey Russell, Kormo Jobs’ area manager and operations chief, said the company will start to invest in the future adding more innovations and jobs into the app.

“The working environment is changing after the pandemic, with development moving to digital technologies requiring different expertise and experience. Businesses of all sizes are facing the pressures of the new standard and job seekers need to respond rapidly to this transition, “Russell wrote in a blog post.

The step further highlights Google’s growing interest in courting a wide slice of search queries relevant to the work. In 2017 the company released a career search app in the U.S., which has since spread to other countries. It had rolled out a virtual visiting card feature in India earlier this month.

Google’s drive into this area is affecting LinkedIn, which lacks a good presence in the developing markets. In India, for example, LinkedIn had around 24 million active monthly users on Android during the month of July, according to App Annie, up from about 22 million over the same period a year ago. Google in India reaches roughly 400 million users.
