Greenko Group started building on its 5,230 MW integrated renewable energy storage project in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district on Tuesday. The business claimed that it will be the world’s largest integrated renewable energy storage project in a statement. The initiative is intended to save 15 million tonnes of CO2, which is the equivalent of 3 million cars on the road. The project will cost more than $3 billion and will include pumped storage (10,800 MWh of daily storage), solar (3,000 MW), and wind (550 MW).

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, spoke at the ‘first concrete pour ceremony’ on Tuesday, saying, “What Andhra Pradesh is showing (with the project) would be a triggering point for the entire country to come together.” follow in the coming days The use of fossil fuels would take a back seat, while Renewable Energy would take the lead.”

According to the chief minister, the initiative aims to provide renewable energy 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“We provide a once-in-a-lifetime chance for those interested in green energy and decarbonizing economies.” Our topography allows us to have a capacity of 33,000 MW in the state, and this project will demonstrate to the rest of the country how green power can be created “Reddy explained. Anil Chalamalasetty, Founder, CEO & MD, Greenko Group, said that Andhra Pradesh is on track to become India’s energy storage capital due to the state’s favourable terrain for pumped storage power plants (PSP).

“This integrated solution is critical for the country to become energy independent and a leader in decarbonized economies,” he said.

Singapore’s Government Investment Corporation (GIC) and Abu Dhabi’s Government Investment Corporation (ADIC) have backed the project. The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), in collaboration with Orix Corporation of Japan, and the Greenko Group, has a total installed renewable energy capacity of 7.5 GW, with 10 GW of projects in the pipeline.

The government’s policy focus and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment are driving the focus on clean energy and renewable energy storage. last November’s COP-26 summit to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2070.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Y S. Jagan Mohan Reddy held the first concrete pour ceremony for the Greenko Group’s project.

The business claims that the 5,230 MW IRESP will help India achieve energy security and facilitate the global energy transition.

This is a first-of-its-kind single-location energy storage installation with wind and solar capacities, according to Greenko. The project will cost more than $3 billion and will include pumped storage (10,800 MWh of daily storage), solar (3,000 MW), and wind (550 MW).
