IKEA opens first in-mall store in India, announces online sale

Spread across 72,000 square feet, the new IKEA store in Mumbai offers over 7,000 well-designed, affordable, quality, functional and sustainable home furnishings products.

The world’s leading Swedish home furnishing retailer IKEA on July 28 opened its first store in India at R CITY in the Ghatkopar (West) area of ​​Mumbai. Although this is the third store in Mumbai and the fifth store in India, it is the first mall store in the country.

The Swedish home furnishing retailer has also announced discounts of up to 50 percent on online orders for Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara. All discounts will be applied directly at the checkout. Some products were left with a discount of 20 percent and more.

IKEA said its new IKEA store spans 72,000 square feet and offers more than 7,000 well-designed, affordable, quality, functional and sustainable home furnishing products.

In addition, customers can order over 5,000 products to be delivered to them, and 2,000 products can be purchased directly in stores.

“IKEA aims to offer home furnishing solutions that meet the aspirations and dreams of many people in Mumbai for a better everyday life. With R CITY Store, we aim to become more accessible and relevant to many people in Mumbai with products that cater to every member of the family. We are excited to welcome our customers to our newest store in Mumbai,” said IKEA R CITY Customer Meeting Point Manager Alan Buckle on 20 July.

The new warehouses will have 15 rooms for inspiration and ideas and an IKEA restaurant with a capacity of 130 seats, which will offer a wide range of Indian and Swedish delicacies.

“With a planned investment of ₹ 6,000 crores in Maharashtra, IKEA expects to attract nearly 4 million visitors to Mumbai this year,” the company said in a statement.

The retailer has hired 180 associates, 76 percent of whom are local, and plans to hire more people from the local area.
