JioSaavn appoints Sahas Malhotra as CEO

JioSaavn is a digital distributor of Hindi, English, Malayalam, Bengali, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Bhojpuri, and other regional Indian music from India. Since its inception in 2007, Saavn has purchased the rights to around 6.0 crore (60 million) songs in 15 languages. JioSaavn is a freemium service that offers basic functionality for free with commercials or limitations, as well as paid subscriptions for enhanced streaming quality and music downloads for offline listening.

Saavn and JioMusic announced their merger on March 23, 2018, in a deal valued more than $1 billion.

Saavn was rebranded JioSaavn once the acquisition was completed in December 2018.

Sahas Malhotra, a veteran of the entertainment sector, has been appointed as the new CEO of JioSaavn, South Asia’s top audio OTT platform. Sahas, who will be based in the company’s Mumbai headquarters, would be in charge of the company’s efforts in the rapidly changing and fascinating Indian market.

Sahas provides a wealth of knowledge in the entertainment sector, including team development, film marketing, music P&L management, licensing, media planning, music publishing, and product management, with over 24 years of experience. Sahas has established himself as a versatile leader with in-depth expertise of adjusting to and embracing an environment of changing trends, consumer behaviors, and technological advancements.

Sahas comes to JioSaavn from Amazon Music, where he was a director and led his team. He has also worked with well-known industry firms such as Sony Music India and Tips Industries in the past. Sahas was the business leader at TIPS Music and the marketing director for TIPS Film Production at Tips Industries, in addition to overseeing the company’s broad marketing verticals.

He effectively managed his team to accomplish revenue targets in the fast-changing entertainment sector as the Director of Digital and New Business at Sony Music India for over 12 years. Sahas also oversaw Sony Music India’s digital P&L and mentored teams in the departments of media planning, media procurement, promotions, marketing partnerships, and new business development.

His wide knowledge in mobile value-added services, online music, online video marketing, syndication, media planning & buying, music publishing, TV, Print & Radio marketing, social media marketing, online advertising, and film marketing is just one example of his impressive resume.
