When it comes to meeting the needs of the business while also complying with labour rules, data privacy may appear to be a balancing act in global corporations.

However, as our society has become increasingly technologically oriented and dependent on technology, it has become critical for businesses and business executives to grasp the value of data privacy. Let us re-learn and refresh our skills and knowledge about the importance of data privacy in today’s world on Data Privacy Day.

Experts feel that it isn’t just human mistake that puts sensitive data at danger; system failures and other technological concerns can also put data at risk. “Software bots, too, have challenges with sharing. It’s not just people who are prone to clicking on the wrong link or being a touch too casual with their personal information.

On this data privacy day, we highlight how we can better safeguard the data that software bots’ access from being exposed,” said Sumit Srivastava, CyberArk’s Solutions Engineering Manager for India.

Sumit noted that the privacy issue occurs when we consider what these bots require in order to function. To give accurate treatments, healthcare organisations require access to sensitive medical data. As a result, client data stored on a public cloud server or a web portal must be processed.

“We’ve seen the issues that may occur when humans are hacked, and the same thing can happen with bots and at scale.” If bots are designed and coded incorrectly, allowing them to access more data than they need, the data may leak to places where it shouldn’t,” Sumit explained.

Similarly, insider assaults and persons being compromised to gain access to sensitive data occur on a daily basis. Machines have the same security risks as people; if they have access to sensitive data and aren’t adequately guarded, it’s an open door for hackers, putting people’s privacy at danger.

In this growing hybrid work paradigm, he also stressed the significance of data privacy. “The hybrid work phenomena is one of the many ways that life has changed for several of us in the last couple of years. Oh, and we’re interfering with our employers’ and customers’ data privacy,” he said.

The origins of this, he claims, are hidden in the unexpected shift of climate that many businesses had to prepare for. Many privacy concerns arose as a result of Covid. Many employees were given a budget and told they may use a laptop. These will not have the same level of protection as a company-provided computer or a workstation in the office.

The mixed work model has also altered the privacy landscape. It implies that in 2022, businesses will have to rethink how data privacy is enforced. In addition, safeguarding remote employees’ access to sensitive data will be a major concern in 2022.

Changes in circumstances have pushed us to reconsider our decisions, resulting in an increase in data leaks and thefts.
