The CII-BCG Big Picture 2021 report examines the recovery of the media and entertainment industry from the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic and highlights key prerequisites for realizing that potential over the next decade.

Madhavan, Chairman of the CII National Committee on Media and Entertainment and President of Walt Disney Company India and Star India, said: It’s worth it, and now our industry is on track.

Chandrajit Banerjee, General Manager of CII, commented on this report: Governments and policymakers, as well as the industry, appreciate the contribution that the KII initiative adds to the sector’s knowledge pool.

A record number of high-end movies are scheduled for 2022.  Biren Ghose, Vice Chairman and Country Head of the CII National Committee on Media and Entertainment in Technicolor India, said: The motto of the Indian game sector is “The future is a game”. The report sheds light on the multimodal growth story of the media and entertainment industry.

India’s OTT sector is currently in the scaling phase with a significant increase in subscriptions and a large investment in premium and original content. This sector is one of the most competitive sectors in emerging markets with over 40 players representing all types of content providers. 

MandeepKohli, Managing Director and Partner of Boston Consulting Group India, said: Like any other industry, last year was a challenging year for the media and entertainment industry. However, the industry has made a remarkable recovery, with TV ad volumes returning to pre-COVID levels and expected to continue to grow with more ads on regional channels and the entry of new advertisers.

AVOD is one of India’s fastest-growing ad segments today, driven by interactive ad formats, content and ad combinations, and the advent of short-form AVOD platforms. One of the main themes of this year’s report is the expected industry transformation over the next decade.

The media and entertainment industry is at an important stage of change and is growing rapidly in some areas.
