Imagine an office meeting where everyone interacts and communicates in one place, but in reality, each person represents a holographic version of themselves or a virtual incarnation. While it may sound like science fiction, Microsoft’s mesh platform aims to bring this kind of mixed reality to life.

Mesh is the company’s new mixed reality platform, offering people a robust experience, including the ability to holoport. Holoportation means a holographic version of yourself that takes you elsewhere for a meeting or cooperative communication.

The company claims that with the help of 3D capture technology, Mesh can transform a person’s life into a virtual arena. Microsoft unveiled the network at the company’s Ignite conference. In fact, the keynote address is designed to incorporate “people who attend conferences from living rooms and home offices around the world” for mixed realities.

What are the possible use cases for the machine?

Due to the social distance and work from home living here, the machine can take remote cooperation to the next level. The machine can provide a great way for engineers and designers to work together, especially for high-quality 3D physical models of cars or furniture. They may all be in different places or time zones, but they collaborate on holographic models of future products without having to worry about the location.

When does the network arrive?

In the coming months, Microsoft says it will offer a full suite of AI-powered tools for avatar mesh, session management, spatial rendering, multi-user sync, and holoportation to create collaborative mixed reality solutions.

It will have open standards and will give developers the freedom to create solutions that work on different devices: Hollow Lens 2, a set of virtual reality headsets, smartphones, tablets and PCs.

Microsoft has announced two applications based on the Microsoft Mesh platform. One is a preview of the Microsoft Mesh app for Hollow Lens, which allows team members to collaborate remotely and is available for download. Users can request access to the latest mesh-enabled AltspaceVR, which will allow companies to conduct business meetings and meetings in virtual reality using enterprise-grade security features, including secure logins, session management, and privacy compliance.

Microsoft mesh integration also comes with products like Microsoft Teams and Dynamics 365.
