Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, on November 16, visited the various social projects he is supporting for the underprivileged children in parts of Madhya Pradesh.

His foundation is helping the construction of a school and hostel in Dewas, which the ‘God of Cricket’ has dedicated to the memory of his late father, Professor Ramesh Tendulkar, who passed away in 1999.

Choosing to visit these places on the 16th of November is poetic, as the former India captain had hung up his boots exactly eight years ago to the day. Then he was batting for India on the field. And today, he is continuing his services off the field, helping the children in the remotest parts of India get the opportunities they deserve.

Safety restrictions due to Covid-19 have kept Mr. Tendulkar from visiting the projects and the beneficiaries in person. But now that the pandemic has finally eased, he visited children in the remote village of Sewaniya in Madhya Pradesh.

In the village of Sewaniya, children are given education, and meals two times a day by the NGO at the Seva Kutir. These Seva Kutir’s are run by Parivaar, an NGO that Tendulkar’s foundation supports, for the vulnerable tribal children.

The interactions Mr. Tendulkar had with the children were heartwarming to watch. He provided them autographs and posed for pictures with them. He encouraged them to chase their dreams and to never give up on them under any circumstances.

Later he joined them for a game of cricket. He was also seen interacting with the teachers at the centre, thanking them for their noble service. Mr. Tendulkar then visited the kitchen to understand how the meals were being prepared for the programme that he supports.

He also stopped at Sandalpur, to oversee the status of a school’s construction that his foundation is funding. It is said that the residential school supports free education for boys and girls and will be able to accommodate 2,300 children over the course of 10 years.

Mr. Tendulkar’s commitment to the school and the sevakutirs is noteworthy, and it should come as no surprise, as his focus on the health and education of children has been well documented over the past few years.

With his off-field conduct, which is as commendable as his on-field exploits, Sachin Tendulkar continues to get the love and adoration of his fans.
