The Cable Operators Welfare Association of India (CoWF India), which represents cable operators across the country, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, called for a halt to the rollout of NTO 2.0 .

The federation wrote that cable television’s unwarranted regulations, specifically New Tariff Order 2 (NTO 2), which took effect on January 1, 2022, would disrupt the cable industry and contributed to unemployment and recession for thousands of people industry and the facts related to it.

“Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) together with broadcasters are threatening local cable operators to enforce new tariff order which will cause a big problem in life of  local cable operators in India,” the letter reads.

The letter added: “Local cable operators suffered a great deal of loss and damage when NTO 1 was deployed, as it did not benefit consumers and local cable operators. NTO1 is not a consumer-friendly decision as many consumers have done already.

They didn’t want holes in their pockets either, they stopped watching cable TV. Unfortunately TRAI just likes to deal with broadcasters and their respective revenue and leave the cable operators alone. “

He also said independent cable operators and MSOs keep going bankrupt as each day goes by because broadcasters seem to make more money than others.

The broadcasters got rich just by advertising and charging 80% of the rates received on the ground, while the local cable operators toiled and worked hard day and night, to the detriment of the people register as well as TRAI.

COWF said it believes NTO 2 will play a bigger role in the lives of local cable operators, as they will be the ones who will lose businesses and jobs if the regulation is enforced. .

“It would not be a lie if we said that cable operators are condemned every day because of poorly enacted tariff ordinances”

Doubtfully, NTO 2.0 is no different from the first version. It’s clear and obvious that our precious consumers won’t be willing to do business with us again of their own accord, because no one wants their pockets empty just to watch TV.
