Tactical Haptics, a company that has been engaged in various activities like reforming human engagements and interactions with machines also known as human-machine interfaces (HMI) with an advanced type of touch feedback which would provide a much practical and realistic tactile feedback when compared with the industry-standard vibration feedback, is now all set to bring a series of upgrades to its line of products. The main target market for the company is virtual reality (VR), where its touch feedback will create completely interactive environments that will make VR and Augmented Reality (AR) attractive for millions of people.

The company has been focusing on the new development efforts on encompassing the efforts into new hardware and focused VR encounters taking into account the feedback received over the last year.

Tactical Haptics’ key developments are enlisted as follows:

Multi-Pose magnet sockets for Quest

The company states that the development is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Phase IIB grant (IIP-1632341). First of all, Tactical Haptics has created a variant of its Multi-Pose magnet sockets which can be used directly with regular Oculus Quest controllers, taking into account the human factors for various sizes of people to ensure a relatively standardized design. Tactical Haptics is putting its efforts on the next level and focuses are being done in innovating new factors of the haptic or tactile controller.

 SaberGrip

SaberGrip is a new cylindrical form factor controller and a branch of the research done by NSF. This development of Tactical Haptics is designed in such a way that it is of lower cost. SaberGrip is a modular controller for the toy industry with a single-board variant. SaberGrip consists of an internal battery charging facility. SaberGrip’s design consists of tactual processes just like any other modular haptic controllers for shifting the sliding plates of the controller. The company said that the controllers were sold quite well before the Covid19 pandemic.

Modular actuator modules

Many of the potential partners of the Tactical Haptics enquired about developing its products and about including the shear feedback solutions within the company. The company has two forms of actuators in addition to two forms of controllers. This makes it easy for the company to perform its activities with the partners interested in embedding shear feedbacks into the devices.

New Sword Fighting experience

This brings a new experience to the VR sword fighting. The inclusion of a robot opponent with 5 tough levels is the highlighted feature of this experience.

Two-handed cylindrical controllers

The device can be used for different purposes like golfing, racket sports, sword fights, etc. The device works for one or two hand actions.

Fishing hardware

Tactical Haptics has developed a new fishing apparatus which is another by-product of the SaberGrip. Users can feel the tug of a fish in the game, thanks to shear input from the controller. Furthermore, the experience involves the inclusion of an instrumented fishing reel attachment which involves a programmable brake that provides improved brake resistance when the fish pulls hard.
