MG Motor India Pvt Ltd launched the luxury sport utility vehicle Gloster with a starting price range of Rs 28.98-35.38 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi, widening its product line with a fourth brand. These prices are available until October 31 or, the company said, for the first 2,000 customers. It plans to start deliveries later this month from Navratri.

Back in February, Gloster was first revealed by MG Motor at Auto Expo 2020. While its interiors were held out of bounds at the time, owing to its broad dimensions and intimidating styling, it managed to make quite an impact. MG said it is aiming high, very simply, and that Gloster will be placed with a range of feature highlights and safety-related enhancements as a premium luxury SUV.

Gloster is aggressively priced and it aims to take on Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner. Base Gloster undercuts base Endeavour by around a lakh while the top model is substantially undercut.

Endeavour and Fortuner are likely to face stiff competition from Gloster because of two reasons. First of all, the vehicle is imposing and promises a whole lot of luxury and protective features. Second, its introductory price is likely to push a prospective customer to head over to the MG showroom in this category as well.

MG Motor India’s President and Managing Director, Rajeev Chaba, had previously told that the company sees competitive prospects in the 30-50 lakh price bracket, in which the brand could be placed as a bridge between mass-market car manufacturers such as Hyundai Motor India Pvt. Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, Tata Motors Ltd, and luxury vehicle manufacturers such as BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz India Pvt. Ltd, ltd.

MG Motor, a subsidiary of China’s SAIC Motor Corp, aims to deliver feature-packed D-segment SUVs with its new offering that can cater to buyers looking for luxury cars in the 25-50 lakh range.

Chaba also added that they designed Gloster almost 1.5 years ago, and their plans are reasonable. There are 40,000 consumers in India annually who purchase cars in the range of Rs.30 lakh to 50 lakh, and we aim to get about 6,000 of them (per year).

The Gloster comes in six- and seven-seat arrangements, two engine options including twin-turbocharged 2-liter diesel, over 70 wired car features, panoramic sunroof, 64-color ambient lighting,   electronically adjustable driver seat, driver seat massager, among many other high-tech features. The Gloster is available in five versions in four variants: Mega, Smart, Sharp, and Savvy.
