According to Satya Nadella, CEO and chairman of Microsoft Corp., hybrid work arrangements and the ability to operate remotely will play a crucial role in keeping people happy and productive.

The fundamental question of why we work is being asked by an increasing number of people. This creates two problems: the hybrid dilemma and the extensive rearrangement. People are shifting employment in vast numbers than ever before.

There is no norm when it comes to hybrid work, and flexibility will be crucial, according to Nadella, who spoke at a two-day Microsoft Future Ready virtual conference that began on Tuesday. He also stated that flexibility and productivity are not mutually exclusive.

Several employee studies, including Microsoft’s, have revealed that knowledge employees prefer to work remotely since the pandemic. Many of them have relocated farther from business districts for lower rentals or to care for children or aging parents, where offices are normally located.

According to a Microsoft report from 2021, 73 percent of workers want remote work to remain flexible. Microsoft has postponed employees’ return to work indefinitely.

Nadella also underlined the significance of creating a digital infrastructure that connects both digital and physical venues to support hybrid work.

According to Nadella, the world is transforming from mobile and cloud computing to ubiquitous computing and ambient intelligence, with the next ten years projected to see more digitization than the preceding 40.

The way organizations sell, service consumers, and communicate with staff is changing dramatically, he added, with an era of networked “ambient intelligence” poised to unite the digital and physical worlds.

Computing is becoming more diffused and integrated into everyday life. And, with new ambient intelligence capabilities, application models are rapidly evolving to run on the edge.

Nadella believes that every business operation will be collaborative, powered by data and artificial intelligence to bridge the digital and physical worlds. He also says that creating a hyper-connected business will be crucial.

In November, Microsoft announced its plans to use Metaverse to provide collaborative experiences for professionals through Mesh for Teams.

As per a Gartner estimate from 2021, by 2025, 80 percent of customer support firms would switch to messaging instead of native mobile apps for a better client experience. Every organization is becoming a digital business, and developing digital capabilities will be critical.

According to Nadella, the success of these trends will be determined by how safe they are against expanding cyber threats. Today, cybersecurity is the most dangerous to digital transformation.

Enterprise cyberattacks have increased dramatically, costing them trillions of dollars in ransom payments, economic disruption, and penalties for failing to secure customer data. Cybersecurity Ventures analysis from 2021 shows that the cost of cybercrime is expected to rise 15% yearly to $10.5 trillion by 2025.

Every firm, as per Nadella, requires comprehensive identity security, compliance, privacy, and management solutions as well as a cross-platform multi-cloud zero trust architecture.
