A WhatsApp chatbot, called MyBMC Assist, has been launched by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. This will immensely ease the process of reaching out to the administration, tiding over red-tapes.

With this, BMC has become the first city administration to provide a comprehensive helpline through WhatsApp for citizens to streamline and engage accessibility to the administration.

The chatbot can be used by all people, like residents of Mumbai, businesses and even tourists, to seek support from the administration, have access to a wide range of resources as well as have their queries answered.

The MyBMC assistant chatbot serves many purposes: catering help to citizens, guiding tourists and businesses, sending alerts and reminders, ensuring 24×7 access for everyone etc. Building this on the popular WhatsApp Business platform ensures that users get quick, easy and reliable real-time answers and feedback on queries.

A virtual event witnessed the launch of the chatbot, in the esteemed presence of Shri Uddhav Thackeray (Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra), Shri. Aditya Thackeray (Minister of Environmental Tourism of Maharashtra), Dr Iqbal Singh Chahal (Hon’ble BMC Commissioner), Shri. Aslam Shaikh (Guardian Minister Mumbai City) and Smt. Kishore Pednekar (Guardian Minister Mumbai City).

“I am proud that our BMC is taking advantage of WhatsApp’s potential to transform the lives of the masses. WhatsApp is today one of the most widely used technology applications. There has been a substantial adoption of technology in this country, and we should take advantage of this to help our citizens. In addition to helping us to better serve this city’s residents, MyBMC Assist will also help to establish a more transparent and accountable framework of governance. It is a credit to all who contributed to this initiative’s success, working in synergy with the participation of citizens” said Shri Uddhav Thackeray, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

According to Shri. Aditya Thackeray, the Minister of Environmental Tourism of Maharashtra this new channel of communication is designed to empower citizens by establishing a convenient, universally accessible suggestion and grievance redressal mechanism, all of which can be done from the comfort of their homes.

The services provided by the chatbot include information about citizens’ wards, nearby amenities, schools, civic services, BEST services etc. while tourists can get information on tourist spots and destinations.

The platform also has provisions for direct registration of complaints, application for festival permissions, license renewal, payments and more. The WhatsApp number for accessing the BMC services is +91-8999228999.
