The Government of India is actively taking initiatives to enhance large data education in India. Realizing the inevitability of large data, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education have taken relevant steps to promote large data and artificial intelligence in higher education. These measures are designed to sustain and accelerate the digital transformation process across India. Meanwhile, several initiatives have been launched to support the education of large data and data analytics.

Under the Big Data Initiatives Division, the Ministry of Science and Technology has launched a programme of Big Data Initiatives to provide financial assistance to support research and development of large data across India. Financial assistance will also be provided for assistance for setting up centres of excellence in Big Data Analytics, Futuristic Technologies, Cyber Security etc. In addition, the programme will financially support national level conferences/workshops/seminars/think sessions etc. The National Institute of Transforming India (NIT), a government agency, has chalked out a strategy to integrate technology with education. It has partnered with various international organizations to enhance big data education in India. For example, Microsoft is helping the Andhra Pradesh government predict dropouts of students in schooling. Based on machine learning and analytics, the initiative has identified about 19,500 portable dropouts from government schools in the Visakhapatnam district in 2018-2019. In addition, NITI Aayog has partnered with the national association of software and services companies (NASSCOM) and created an AI-based module to enhance Artificial Intelligence Education in India.

Government of India invests in Big Data Education

A large number of graduates have contributed to India, especially from technology-related education backgrounds to the global job market. Since now, the country has been in a prominent position in the global education sector. It may be recalled that India is one of the largest networks of higher educational institutions in the world, which uses investment and merger stake from the government. The country has a population of about 500 million people between the ages of 5 and 24. The education sector in India is estimated at $102.7 billion in 2019.

Technology related studies contribute to the largest number of Indian education industry. Big Data is one of the growing sectors in the country to increase its education base. Big data is an integral part of every radar. Therefore, the education sector cannot stay away from technology connectivity anymore. Many educational institutions in India are using new technology tools to improve pedagogy. Today, students in the country, large data and its development use of thankyou, data and resources available anywhere in the world. Analytics tools and platforms play an important role in the big data education industry. Analytics consists mainly of a broad family of problems arising in terms of databases, data warehousing and data mining research.

Latest Government Initiatives in Data Science Education and Skills

India is one of the most comprehensive education systems in the world. Although the cost in the education sector on the domestic circuit is not the same as that of developed countries like the US, UK, Germany, Japan and China, the country is slowly drawing in the race. The Modi government along with several government educational institutions has taken important steps to ensure technical skills in artificial intelligence and big data. Many universities and institutions have been expanding their data science courses and upskill offerings in recent years. The government’s announcement to set up data centre parks across India has been accepted as the most welcome step under the Union Budget 2020. Since data science continues to fully integrate into the core professional functions of institutions, the demand for relevant skills and expertise will increase in the coming years.

Under the Big Data Initiative, the Government of India plans to inter-analysis as per skill level and policy framework. It plans to develop a strategic road map and action plan that defines the roles of various stakeholders like government, industry, educational, industry associations and others for the next ten years with clear timelines and results and conducts market scenario surveys to assess future opportunities and demand for skill levels over the same period. For this, Government of India is trying to understand the current state of the industry by various sportspersons providing services in market size, sectors/functions, opportunities, industry SWAT, policy framework (if any), current skill level available etc.

In April, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur introduced free statistical courses including reverse analysis, model theory, analysis of experiment design and variation, linear reverse analysis and forecasting, the introduction of R software, others. IIT Roorkee later joined TSW, the executive education department of Times Professional Learning, to launch a pg certificate programme in data science and machine learning. In October, October, IIT Jodhpur started a BTech programme in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science from the academic session 2020-21.

IISc (Indian Institute of Science) in collaboration with Talent Sprint is also planning to launch a ten-month advanced programme in Computational Data Science with the first heart to begin in January 2021. The Computational Data Science Course today also includes a case study of analysis on how the industry uses computational data science in real-world use cases. The broader course of the course includes mathematics of data science, neural networks, machine learning, data engineering and business analytics.

International Institute of Information Technology-Hyderabad collaborated with Great Learning to issue an 8 month extended post-graduate certificate in software engineering for data science. The programme aims to help learners acquire skills in software and data science, especially technology leaders and managers who are looking to further data science and AI implementation in the institute.
