Celebrating “International tea day 2021”

The second most-consumed drink after water is tea. Consumption of tea started as a habit that eventually turns into a necessity. Ultimately, the UN (United Nations) decided to dedicate a day to this popular drink named “International tea day”. Tea is made up of the Camellia Sinensis plant, recognized as one of the oldest beverages, and had roots from northeast India, northern Myanmar, Southwest China. There is no primary evidence of where it was first grown.

“International tea day” is celebrated all over the world with the theme to promote the production and consumption of tea. Apart from accelerating trade, the Tea sector helps in reducing poverty among the coastal areas. It is an integral part of the Sustainable development goal program. Many proportions of women get empowered by adopting this production process as tea is regarded as one of the important cash crops in the most underdeveloped section of countries.

Earlier International tea day was celebrated in December. It is recently celebrated for may month as in most of the tea-producing countries the season of production of the tea plant begins in May. UN aims to improve tea farmers’ quality of life by promoting different campaigns based on International tea day.
