Discovery earns telecast rights for PTO’s Collins Cup

The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) and Discovery have signed a new deal that Collins Cup will be screened exclusively across Europe through Eurosport, Discovery’s top multi-sport brand.

The Collins Cup is the PTO’s initial flagship occurrence taking place on 28th August in Šamorín, near Bratislava, Slovakia, and is a novel race format modelled after the Ryder Cup, which will see teams of International, European, and USA athletes eroded counter to one another and put on a show of anticipation, competition, play and characters of the sport of triathlon.

In associated with the one-year contract, an opportunity to extend for another two years, Eurosport will display the race action, live and on-demand, in 20 different languages. Core coverage, including shoulder programming, will extent across Eurosport 1 and 2, and via the Eurosport App and discovery+, with a two-part documentary offered to stream via discovery+.

The entire Collins Cup show of over 7 hours will air live on Eurosport 2 and simulcast live on the Eurosport App, with climaxes aired on Eurosport 1 the following day. They have also held highlights and live coverage via Eurosport across the Asia Pacific with dispersal in India.

Substantial shoulder programming, including two Collins Cup countdown displays, will be showcased across the Eurosport App to reveal the prime stories and key encounters ahead of the live show. Two days before the live racing takes place, watchers will be able to stream the Collins Cup draft show live from Šamorín where Team Captains will pick athletes for each specific match up.

Discovery+ also offers streaming access to PTO’s Beyond Human documentary produced by Noah Media Group, followed by the journeys of three of the biggest names in the sport – Lionel Sanders (Team Internationals), Sebastien Kienle (Team Europe), and Heather Jackson (Team USA) in their quest to see who rules triathlon.

Through discovery+, They’re progressively focussed on the border between sport and realistic entertainment and the partnership with PTO will mean that they can showcase some of the most convincing stories to the extensive possible audience, Young added. In markets, Eurosport will be available via discovery+ excluding Russia.
