In its latest World Environment Day campaign, Godrej Appliances, a business unit of Godrej & Boyce, the flagship company of the Godrej Group, urges consumers to switch to eco-friendly home appliances such as air conditioners with R290 refrigerant, which have the least impact on global warming, thereby protecting the planet from the looming climate crisis.
With summer temperatures rising each year and several parts of the country experiencing heat waves, air conditioners are no longer considered a luxury but rather a necessity for relief from the extreme heat. What many consumers may not realize is that every air conditioning system uses a refrigerant – which comes in a variety of types, each with its environmental impact. Consumers must be aware of the global warming potential (GWP) of the refrigerant used in their air conditioner. R290 is the most environmentally friendly AC refrigerant, with a GWP of 3 and an ozone depletion potential of 0. Other refrigerants, such as R410a, have a much higher global warming potential of 1800 or greater.
The digital campaign features a child as the protagonist, representing our future generations, as well as birds and animals that coexist on our planet, all emphasizing the importance of greener R290 refrigerant in air conditioners and encouraging people to make the switch. The message being conveyed is consistent with the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) World Environment Day theme of ‘One Earth,’ which encourages people to take action and protect the environment.
According to the report, “of all the appliances that make consumers’ lives easier, the air conditioner has the largest environmental footprint and, as such, should be the first area of focus for sustainable action.” Swati Rathi, Head-Marketing, Godrej Appliances said. Godrej Appliances, a truly environmentally-conscious brand, is the first and only appliance company in India to produce R290 refrigerant-based air conditioners. Continuing the #LetsStartRight content series, this short video attempts to educate people about how a simple act of selecting the right refrigerant in air conditioners can make a significant difference in combating global warming.”
The video, created by CreativeLand Asia, will be made available on social media and e-commerce platforms on World Environment Day. Anu Joseph, Chief Creative Officer at Creativeland Asia, commented on this, saying, “Probably, the entire planet is asking us to change our attitude toward the environment.” If we listen carefully enough, we might be able to hear small messages from the birds and animals around us. That’s the premise of this simple film for Godrej Appliances’ R290 refrigerant-based air conditioners.”
