Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIITD) is one of the reputed institutes based in Delhi, with a research-oriented focus on Computer Science and allied areas.

They recently established the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Human-Centered Computing (HCC) to cater to the growing needs of human-centric solutions across different industries. The head of the new center is Prof. Pushpendra Singh.

It was established on the belief that the research conducted at the center will take the field of HCC forward and train and develop essential manpower.

Human-centered computing or HCC is a system that combines human-centered design principles with the development of computing solutions. It aims to create technology solutions that place users at the center of the design process.

Computing solutions are increasingly becoming a part of daily life. From an ordinary apps to digital payment apps to services such as IRCTC, the digital world has enveloped the ordinary man.

Thus, it is necessary to develop solutions that support the user without requiring them to learn the technology.

The adverse effect of this is seen during the demonetization and the pandemic when many people who did not know how to use the e-banking system were found in huge distress.

Currently the tech solutions have been developed in the West and then are imported. That creates cultural and technological problems. This research will tackle those challenges by building tech-based on India’s diversity in languages, culture, and social habits.

More specifically, the research at this center will focus on creating knowledge and methods to develop technology solutions that will serve Indian needs.

Their area of research is health, education, privacy, safety, and technologies related to smart cities. It will also help in supporting research and development efforts towards sustainable development goals.

This faculty will teach different courses related to HCC. They will also conduct conferences organize workshops and training courses.

The Centre of Excellence is set up under the DESINNO project. This center is also supported by establishing a state-of-the-art lab for design and innovation activities.

They have also conducted workshops in collaboration with European partners to train manpower in India.

This collaboration will continue in the future, organizing workshops, conferences, and other educational activities.

Unlike in the past, the present society is covered in a digital world. When metaverse goes fully functional, then this embrace will evolve into a blanket. From GPS to Arogya Setu, internet and computing solutions are part of our daily life.

Even government services have moved in that direction. Thus, the need has arisen to develop these solutions domestically that understands the diversity of the nation. This center and the institute will aid the nation in that direction.
