Importance of diversity and inclusion in business

In technology, diversity is important because it helps organizations to create a healthier and safer world that takes everyone into account, not just a single segment of society. 2020 has played a significant role in inspiring women to step up their leadership positions. In their business, women have a vision of diversity, whether in terms of considering individuals, technology, change, or creativity. Women have the potential to better understand the role of leadership and to lead through the transition. And change involves transformation and creativity, while diversity is required for innovation. The whole picture acts as a cycle and revolves around female technology leaders.
A McKinsey study shows that diverse businesses perform better, hire better talent, have more employees participating, and retain employees better than businesses that do not concentrate on diversity and inclusion. Despite this, in IT roles, women remain largely underrepresented. The US Department of Labor has been publishing estimates for more than a decade that women make up less than 50 percent of the workforce and hold less than 25 percent of positions in information technology (IT). The World Economic Forum also offers an insight into inequality, publishing the Global Gender Gap Index. The Global Gender Gap score in 2020 stands at 68.6%, reducing the gap from previous years. The remaining 31.4 percent, though, is where the group needs to do homework to get it to zero.
Technology is a place that has long been dominated by men. It can be difficult for women to succeed in technology at any point in their careers, from the cultural perception that computer science is a ‘topic for boys’ to the presumption and sexism that women face in the industry. Nevertheless, amid the gender prejudices pitted against them, many high-performing women survive and excel as leaders. In 2019, women occupied 29 percent of senior management positions, which is the highest number on record, and 87 percent of global companies had at least one woman to fill technology and innovation leadership roles. Naturally, women are empathic and can apply emotional intelligence contextually to handle people effectively. This explains why women leaders have shown their ability to create a secure, open and conducive work environment throughout the world. At the same time, research has shown that female directors appear to be less conformist and more likely than male directors to express their independent opinions because they do not belong to old-boy networks, which in turn represents when strategic choices are made by the company.
Old norms, fewer interactions, bias and prejudice, and lack of flexibility are some of the main challenges for women that still need to be tackled, according to AAUW. While these are some of the well-known sloppy places, everyday women in higher positions often face unspoken challenges. For them, it is the primary achievement to gain recognition for the role, to be heard at meetings, and to be themselves without changing for the individual or society. Despite all the defiance, women in technology lead as trailblazers and innovators who are selected because they have a specific lens for their respective companies to help advance innovation by unleashing economic wealth as a resource.
