As the sun came down for the final time in 2021, citizens from all over the country began to order food from the two popular food delivery apps in India.

Restrictions were imposed in many parts of the country as a result of the sudden emergence of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

Restaurants and bars could not be open with more than 25 people. As a result, many people took to ordering food from outside to enjoy the new year at home. Zomato had been busy during New Year’s Eve as it received many orders from all over the country.

The app, hours before midnight, had sent out a tweet appreciating customers, restaurant partners, chat support, tech team, tech team, delivery partners, doctors and medical staff who were all on duty during New Year’s Eve. The app also gave special mention to the police staff patrolling around the night to receive the new year safely.

Hours later, the app hit a total of 2 million orders before midnight came to close. There was still 3 hours to go and, the app had orders coming in every second.

The delivery app immediately sent out a tweet with a hilarious meme regarding the 2 million orders. It shared a picture of random office staff with labels of all who were working till midnight and who contributed to this goal.

Swiggy, who is Zomato’s rival app, had also recorded 2 million orders by 9 pm. The app mentioned that they had even more orders lined up to deliver. The app also shared their top 5 orders of the night from the entire country.

Swiggy shared an interesting fact about their deliveries throughout the night. The app tweeted out saying they delivered 1,229 biriyanis in a minute.

Both apps were doing well throughout the night. They sent out a tweet saying that they were grateful for being part of the new year celebration in India.

They also mentioned that none of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for the delivery boys who went out at such a busy night to deliver the food to all citizens across the country.
