A Teacher or Guru is very important in everyone’s life. It is the Teacher who provides the right direction towards the path of one’s career. They are the one who helps the students to acquire knowledge, competence, or virtue. There is an old ritual of giving Guru Dakshina to the Guru or Teacher.

This Teachers’ Day, Class plus has launched a video campaign, Guru Dakshina, to supply a token of gratitude to any or all the “gurus” for his or her invaluable lessons and contribution to their students’ successes. The campaign is addressed at an ancient Indian tradition of repaying one’s teacher as a way of expressing heartfelt gratitude when one’s education is completed.

Education went through a paradigm shift within the last few years thanks to the appearance of technology and pandemic-induced lockdowns. Schools, colleges, and training institutes became virtual and teaching started happening over video calls.

It was an unplanned change, one that left lots of teachers who didn’t know the way to handle online teaching confused and discouraged. Teaching wasn’t only a source of income for them but it was their passion too. The video shows one such teacher who is depressed at the prospect of never having the ability to show again since he has never adopted technology for online teaching. He’s prepared to go away from the town where he taught thousands of scholars over decades and move to a city until a pair of his old students visit him. The heartwarming video honors the teacher-student relationship and reminds the viewers that they owe their success to their teachers’ lessons.

Empowering their teachers to continue teaching in these trying times through technology, rather like Class plus does, is that the least one can do to repay the debt they owe to them.

“At the time of lockdown, teachers were under lots of stress since they weren’t familiar with technology and suddenly, teaching required them to use various tools. Class plus wanted to be their pillar of strength so all that they had to try and do was target teaching while we took care of the rest. Guru Dakshina is inspired by our personal story of how we’ve got independent not just our teachers but the teachers across the country through a set of mobile teaching solutions. It’s our simple guru Dakshina for them.”, commented Mukul Rustagi The Co-Founder of Class plus.
