Airbnb, the American company which majorly operates as an online platform for short-term renting of homestays for vacations and tourism activities, yesterday revealed the news on the internet that is going to partner with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC) for Tokyo Olympics 2021, which will begin from23rd of July.

IOC, IPC, and Airbnb together have curated an online program for sports lovers and game viewers which include several activities, all online, keeping in mind the present COVID scenario. The program will be an online five-day summer festival featuring more than 100 Olympians and Paralympians and will be hosted by famous athletes Colin Jackson, Pita Taufatofua, and Baroness Tanni-Grey Thompson on the 24th of July. A closing act is also scheduled with the skateboarding icon Tony Hawk. Bookings for the event will start from the 22nd of July. The money from these bookings will support athletes financially and other talented Olympic and Paralympic dreamers who look forward to participating in the international games. Through this, the athletes have an opportunity to generate income while sharing their passion.

Through the five days of the event across multiple time zones, the guests who will be boarded will showcase a variety of interactive Online Experiences which can be pre-booked on Airbnb. Viewers can either choose to watch the Online Experiences live or replay it on YouTube channels of Airbnb, Olympic, and Paralympics. Some exclusive experiences will be shorter and only for the time being for which the games are scheduled, that is from 23rd of July to 8th August while others will continue even after the games end. ‘The art of reinvention’ with Olympian Simidele Adeagbo and ‘Positive thinking’ with Paralympian Stephen Miller.

The Co-founder of Airbnb, Joe Gebbia, commented recently on this in a press release. He said that the company’s aim and the idea behind this move were to give people an experience of togetherness even in these difficult times. The past two years have been rough, even the games got canceled last year, which was huge news! But the company is proud today to host such an event to let sports enthusiasts experience the Olympics and Paralympics even from the comfort of their homes. The guests on the show will be interacting with the athletes and even some views will be allowed to do the same. All in all, creating a supportive and positive vibe on and off the grounds.
