It unveiled a slew of new Lenses features, as well as monetization possibilities for AR producers and even new Spectacles capabilities.

There are currently 306 million Snapchatters worldwide, who use Snap’s camera to create an average of 5 billion Snaps per day. Every day, more than 200 million Snapchatters interact with Lenses more than 6 billion times.

Furthermore, over 250,000 Lens Creators from over 200 countries and territories have created over 2.5 million AR Lenses, which have been seen over 3.5 trillion times. Snap’s annual, global event, Lens Fest, which runs digitally until December 9th, celebrates innovation and creativity from all corners of the Snap AR community.

Snap’s AR development program, Lens Studio, has received a 4.10 upgrade that includes several new features and capabilities. Whether designed by the community or the Snap team, all Lenses begin with Lens Studio. Lenses can then be integrated into Snapchat, Snap Camera, Spectacles, and other apps using Camera Kit.

Snap has been bringing some of the most inventive technologies it has developed to Lens Studio over the last year. AR makers and developers have already used features like garment and skin segmentation, 3D Body Mesh, and VoiceXML to create more engaging, realistic, and accessible experiences.

Landmarks made to order

Landmarks and Local Lenses were introduced by Snap-in 2019 and 2020, respectively, allowing users to layer augmented reality on top of hundreds of popular places across the world. Custom Landmarks, which turn local landmarks into augmented reality attractions, will be available soon.

To map the environment and produce a 3D model to upload into Lens Studio, all you need is a mobile device with a LiDAR scanner.  We’re pleased to shortly hand over our Landmark mapping technology to creators, allowing them to convert more of the environment into their canvas, from monuments to stores.

Mesh of the World — Any designer may use depth information and world geometry comprehension to create experiences that appear and feel more like they’re part of the actual world, something that was previously only possible with higher-end devices, allowing Lenses like the Matrix world below to be created.

Creators of lenses now have new ways to make money.

Snap is still looking for new ways to support its growing community of creators and their great ideas.

Spectacles now have new capabilities. Over five years ago, Snap debuted Spectacles as a fun, hands-free camera to help you capture your viewpoint and stay in the moment.

Since then, we’ve improved each generation using an iterative, public manner while simultaneously learning from the community.

Our next-generation Spectacles (with AR display) have now assisted creators in creating hundreds of Lenses that provide new views to everyday activities.
