Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC for 2021 offers more of the same

The Snapdragon 870 chipset was introduced by Qualcomm. It was revealed as a follow-up to the flagship Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset featuring an upgraded Kryo 585 CPU prime core clocked at a speed of up to 3.2 GHz. Qualcomm insists that the latest Snapdragon 870 is built to offer even greater results across the board for “geared-up gameplay with insanely fast Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming experiences” It also provides 5G at sub-6 GHz and mmWave as well as “ultra-intuitive AI”

Building on the success of Snapdragon 865 and 865 Plus, the latest Snapdragon 870 was developed to satisfy OEM and smartphone industry requirements. Snapdragon 870 will power a range of flagship smartphones from key customers including Motorola, iQOO, OnePlus, OPPO, and Xiaomi. With the Snapdragon 870 SoC, Qualcomm is offering fast performance with the aid of its Kryo 585 Processor, now clocked for even higher performance. The chipset is optimized for high-performance computing and can provide peak performance with optimum power consumption.

Qualcomm also provides Snapdragon Elite Games, which it says offers desktop-level rendering, hyper-realistic graphics, and real-time performance enhancement. These features work in combination with the Qualcomm Adreno 650 GPU. Besides, support is also offered for features such as Qualcomm Game Smoother, which lowers jank. There is also Qualcomm Game Color Plus and support for real 10-bit HDR games for better color and contrast. The chipset also includes support for up-to-date GPU drivers to provide the new game optimizations.

Apart from this, the chipset also carries with it the 5th generation AI Engine of the company. There’s also the Qualcomm Hexagon 698 processor with the Hexagon Tensor Accelerator on-board to drive the AI to 15 TOPS. The chipset also supports Qualcomm’s 4+ Fast Charge technology for faster-charging rates. In terms of optics, the chipset includes the Qualcomm Spectra 480 Image Signal Processor, which provides support for dual 14-bit ISPs. The chipset also provides a machine vision hardware accelerator (CV-ISP). Up to 200-megapixel photo capturing is supported.

Additionally, The Qualcomm FastConnect 6800 System on-board the chipset offers support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth. For the former, the phone supports gigabit-class speeds (up to 1.8 Gbps) and low latency connections.
